Good & cheap graphics-card

Hi everyone,

I'm looking here for a good video-card that could run PR smooth with average to good settings. Now I have this piece of garbage:

Genuine Intel(R) CPU 2140 @ 1.60GHz (2 CPUs), ~1.6GHz
3000MB RAM
Ati Radeon 2400HD Pro

Wich has a very bad video-card  as you can see. The rest is not perfect though :o ops: but it's chill
I upgraded my RAM wich helped quite much and now I'm looking to replace my videocard since I can't afford buying myself a new computer in the coming next ???-months.
My settings in PR are now almost all at medium except light-effects wich are high and AAx4.
It runs pretty smoothly though on maps like Lashkar & Korrengal Valley, Yamalia, Silent Eagle, Ramiel, Iron Ridge, Kozelsk and Gaza I have pretty low FPS.
Atm I can spend about $60 for a new card.

Any suggestions please ?
Ty.

TBH I have a superior rig to yours in every means BUT. I'm not saying this as a" haha look at you're pc lololol"
I have terrible, terrible, terrible performance in PR. And there is no real GPU you could put in that, that won't get choked to death by you're CPU.

but

I come with good news. I guess.
The GTX460s are only 200$ CAD = 174 Euros
The GTS250s are only 120$ CAD = 89 Euros
The 9800gt ( the card i have ) are only 94$ CAD = 69 Euros
The 9500gts are only 69$ CAD = 51 Euros.

All in all I don't think you should buy a new GPU. You'll need a brand new PC to run those.
I suggest: Waiting.

Just stare at you're PC. It'll give up sooner or later and grow a pair of legs and walk to the PC store and upgrade it self.

I thought PR was more a GPU-eater than a CPU-eater ? Though I noticed a change when I upgraded my RAM with 1GB. Fact is also; I want to play with textures high. I already have, like I mentioned before, almost everything on medium (objects, geometry, etc) and high (lightning,AA,etc..) and playing on 1440x900@75. Now that I can give away about 60-70 euros I see a chance for buying me a cheap but good videocard because mine is outdated, .. a long time ago lol.

It is sort of out dated. And TBH, i'm still asking arround the forums for the answer to :
Is PR a CPU eater or GPU eater?

I'm not sure if you have an old AGP set up or not but any of the mentioned cards will do you fine.

But i find the 9800GT to laggy for me and upgrading to a gtx460. Hopefully it will fix my problem. It might be the setting i run at, and since I only recently restarted playing PR i'm still trying to find a perfect zen of Performance and Visuals.
So far i need to turn off filters so every thing isn't nice at all.

Also i suggest getting a card with 1GB mem.

I have a EVGA 9500gt which can be bought for about $50 and it runs PR on medium / high.

It's an upgrade from OP's GPU... if he can use it... doesn't require a lot of power either.

Graphics cards, memory, processor, etc. are bad spots to cheap out in. 9800gt and some others are good. I myself have a nvidia geforce gt220 with 1gb dedicated and it works fine (I'm playing 40-60 fps, 50-80ping, and all settings highest with no problems). I recommend a graphics card that will handle settings almost on highest and will handle some other games, i.e. call of duty 4 and arma

Yes. And if your motherboard supports faster memory, get the fastest your board supports. Most memory is fairly cheap these days. The other thing to speed up loading times would be an upgrade to the hard drive. Then again, clearing out cached files and directories, along with a good disc clean-up and defrag, will help your existing hard drive feel speedier.

To the OP's original question, right now I recommend the Nvidia GTX 460. It has the greatest bang for the buck and plays most of today's game maxed out at decent display resolutions. It reminds me of the legendary 8800GT from a few years ago (2007).

agp or PCIe ?
You can drop AA to x2,x4 is a bit too much.
For AGP, you can probably get the 3850 for ( 60e or less)

PCI.

AA doesn't seem to make that much change to me if talking about the FPS. The textures look softer and smoother but almost no change at FPS at all.
I've tried to change some settings for the best performance and quality and it is good as it is now;
textures - medium
geometry - medium
effects - medium
everything lightrelated is on high + AA maxed (x4 on my PC)
