Random Crash to Desktop

This just started a couple days ago. I had been playing fine for weeks but then I just started getting random Crashes to the Desktop. Once it was 3 crashes in a few minutes, then I could play a full game, then back to every few minutes. I didn't matter what map or what I am looking at. No error messages, no problems restarting and the game looks fine.

I probably will have to do a reinstall but I wanted to know if you guys have anything.

Before you reinstall:
Run PR in 'windowed' mode
If you still have problems
run PR in 'windowed' mode to see if any error messages come up
(instead of running in full screen, it runs in a 'window')
To do so
Right click on shortcut.
Choose properties from bottom of list.
Modify the text in your shortcut's 'target' window.
("C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start +fullscreen 1)

Change
+fullscreen 1
to
+fullscreen 0
Should look like this in Vista ( XP lose the (x86) ):
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start +fullscreen 0

Then Google or use 'search' on Project Reality web page for the error message you get next time you crash.

If you still have trouble run battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cache files

Still no joy?

Trash your BF2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.

Still CTD?
OK
Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder. Once you have a backup delete the original from your documents folder.
Try starting PR from your PR shortcut
a new default folder is created
link to your online account.
If all goes well (CTD gone) all you have to do to get your custom settings back is copy your 'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001

Good luck

Same thing, even after a complete BF2 reinstall.

Go into your video section Project reality and turn texture detail to medium.

^ good tip with the medium textures.

Having the same problem on almost the same specs with Vista 64 bit.

Was playing full rounds fine for about a week, today I go and fire up Muttrah 24/7, and I get a CTD in the first 3 minutes. Fire up again, same thing. This time only one minute in. Tried windowed mode to get the error message, all that happened was the ground textures got messed up, and it CTDed and I still didn't get an error message.

I was playing earlier this summer as well for about a month, all settings maxed out (this game looks bad enough with age on everything high) and everything was perfect. I ran bf2cleaner, still no joy.

Any suggestions?
