As you might guess, I'm pretty new to the mod. Most of my time on it has been spent practicing and flying helis in cooperative mode - I've only been online 3 or 4 times, the last of which being last night. I made sure to not use limited kits and tried to support the squad as much as possible but someone decided to spout off about me being useless and told me to leave the server (I did, but only because my tea was ready). I'm just asking that people be a little more accepting of us n00bs and not forget that they were learning about the mod once too.
Also, are there any servers I could join with open squads and nice people who won't kick me from them?

Actually, there are usually a good amount of good people that have squads that allow newbies to the mod in, I'm one of those people.

Just practice in Co-Op then try in real games

Remember to listen though, that's the key element in PR.

well only thing i can tell you is that you communicate (a lot but not too much cuz then everyone gets annoyed) and follow the SL where ever he goes and do what ever he says, if he tells you to stay in that corner for the next 15mins you do that with a smile on your face also learn how to shoot properly, some people are just jerks usually the guys who knew everything in PR from the 1st day they installed it, find a server you think is good and has a fair amount of english speaking users and also has teamwork in it, find a Voip squad and stick with them, there are some people that will help you out a great deal when playing the game, but some are just hot heads so dont mind them, try to see who are the regulars on the server you play and stick with them especially if the SL a lot and are good at it.

if it was a SQ member that told you that, just tell them to shut up, SL has the final word on who is useful and who is not.

take a rifelman kit before you learn how to use the other kits, or you can use the medic kit if you dont want to shoot too much, but make sure you get someone to teach you all the little tricks.

Welcome to forums and welcome to battlefield. As in real army, there are many d-bags on servers who think you own them world just because you are new. But major part of our community is not like that, so just take your time, read closely to manual and pay your dues as rifleman, see what others do and you'll learn pretty quick.

Tactical gamer is a good server.
UKWF (UK warefare) is a good server as most people who play there are english and nice people

if someone tells you to leave the server for a reason like that just ignore them, your trying arn't you? and thats all that counts, this game is for fun even though some might disaggree with me.

The folks over at Tactical Gamer and Alpha are great communities to get involved with. Both communities are heavily involved with the usage of mumble. The Alpha guys are typically found in mumble in their own mumble channel playing on other servers, so feel free to join their channel and say hello. The TG server is full at 62 so you might have to auto deploy to get in.

The TG supporting member thing is evil! It kicked me to make room for a supporting member.

Im playing on TG often, running and INF squad. If you see that [OD-S] has free slots in the squad, feel free to join.

I remember being a noob, but remember to stick with it. In many ways it's a lot better for new players with the co-op mode. I remember messing around on local servers for months before I tried the game online back in .6. I'll probably have to do that again when I can finally get back to PR as it's going to be over a year without PR before I can get back to it.

Until your confident you understand the game, always try to let a squad leader know that your new, that way they will know what to expect from you and set appropriate tasks for your level of experience. Hell, nobody who can follow simple orders is useless, at the very least you can be used to check for booby traps. I kid, but seriously. Try to stick with rifleman optics or irons, whichever you feel more comfortable with, try to avoid critical squad roles like medic, support gunner or anti-tank as more than any other classes these can decide the survival of the entire squad. With standard rifleman, all you need to be able to do is put fire down-field when ordered too, doesn't matter if you can't his the broad side of a barn.

As for Helo's, keep practising on CO-OP, but refrain from trying in live match for a while, observe the current helo pilots for a while, see what pressures they are under and what is required of them. PR needs good helo pilots, but if you jump in there before you are ready, be prepared for grief. Practice drills on Jabal on a local server, running from carrier to east beach, see how fast you make the approach, then step it up a notch to the landing pads and various levels of the dam. Make sure you can hover 2 feet above uneven terrain for at least 3 seconds. Once you do go onto live for the first time, make sure your not the only helo pilot and try to take the easier jobs, transporting stragglers, supply drops and suchlike until you get used to the pressures of SAM sites and APC's.

Last but not least, stick with it, I got shouted at, berated and kicked by various squad leaders for months after I first started and the guys who are giving you **** will have been through exactly the same. Don't take it to heart, its nothing personal, try to take your criticism well and learn from your mistakes.

I agree whit most of the people here, just do your best ,listen to your SL, don't waste things (Kits, assets, what so ever) and you'll be fine. If someone says to you, that you are useless just tell him you are a newbie and he wasn't any better as he started.
Now to the servers...to be honest Tactical Gamer isn't really a good "beginner-server". Their rules are pretty harsh, and the admins don't tolerate much, so you should start with UKWF or NwA (Both awesome server, just a little lack of mumble-users xD). Anyway good luck and see ya on the Battlefield

Edit: IMPORTANT NOTE: Use MIC!, if you don't have one buy one. Its essential and gives you a totally different experience while playing (in the positive way ). And get Mumble! Awesome program, very useful, and you'll meet many friendly people in the community, maybe even some friends.

I really dont understand players who are bullying noobs just because they dont have the knowledge of experienced players. of course there are some real "NOOBS" who only join servers to f*** up gameplay destroying assets etc and i totally hate such people. but most new players really want to learn the game, however some people are trying to learn to fast, and thats when it happens that every single helicopter is being crashed ...

thats an appeal to all experienced and new players:
if there s a newbie whos willing to play with you as a team, let them do so and give them time to learn the game. if i think about how i learned to play PR, i remember that i started much earlier than the noobs nowadays and that the game hasnt been as complex as it is today and there were small steps i learned something new, the patches. When you start playing PR in 0.91 the mass of changes and improvements must be overwhelming.
remember it takes much time to learn all those new rules and to get a feeling for the new gameplay.

thanks for the good advice everyone! I will be joining some of you in the severs no doubt. In that particular game i joined a recon squad first as a rifleman then as a medic and did not explain that i was a noob :S i guess i can see where he was coming from and i will learn from my mistakes.
There aren't many opportunities for me to use my mic, as my dad works a night shift, but i dont think i have voip enabled right now.
One of my previous games was absolutely awesome, though - we were on operation archer as canadians and a guy dropped a sniper kit. I know i shouldn't have used it, being a noob and all but i did end up with 12 kills from it

Yeah some guys can be Elitist tards, but most players are not, thankfully....

You also need to find a server that suits you, and stay with it.

Join the forum and become part of their community, soon you'll be invited to a squad instead of kicked from it..


TNT and VG /TG are friendly co-op servers.....good places to learn.

I was able to fly jets and helicopters fine right off the bat (Thank god), but my infantry skills pretty much blew. I just played Co-op a lot in Veteran gamer's servers, and soon enough I found my way onto the TG server and was pretty good. My headset was a great help. I recommend just going into co-op and spending time with all the limited kits and flying, then move onto mastering with the infantry kits (Riflemen AT, AP, Riflemen, Combat Medic, and Marksman). Once you get those few down you should be able to play online and be able to get by.

It ain't nice when experienced players don't support new guys. If all 0.5ers would just kick new playas off, there wouldn't be much members in PR community.

I think it goes back to when players were switching from vanilla to PR in droves, because of amount of nade spamming tking hax etc.

Once players crossed over to PR they figured any other player switching would bring vanilla habits with them.

Some guys still think that way, forgetting that most PR players atually originated from Vanilla..

Nice man. Took me 5 months to learn the Sniper kit.
Good thing you tried instead of letting teh kit go to waste.

I think that the physics of the aircrafts on coop server are too easy, and diferent from the normal game, so i don't use it for training, because it is easy to fly and don't train the player for the real game...

correct me if i'm wrong...
