[0.917] Minor ACOG Angle Bug

by Warno000
Description:
The part of the ACOG sight with the red line on top does not angle correctly with the rest of the gun when turning to the right.

Steps to Reproduce:

1) Select a weapon with an ACOG sight
2) Spin the character to the right and observe the top portion of the ACOG sight [the bit with the red line]

To reproduce with greater clarity:
1) The problem is better seen when flying as a passenger in a huey helicopter. Look to the right when sitting in a passenger seat on a huey [see video below].

Video:
Sorry its X-Fire, but you can still see the problem clearly. It is very clear when I'm flying in the huey helicopter. Pay attention to the red line on top of the ACOG.

obviously this is a minor bug, and does not affect game play. I just thought I'd report it anyways.

Apart from not aligning correctly to the scope, it seems "hovering" above the sight itself. Its not attached to the sight.

BTW, you have good eyes mate, I haven't noticed that after like three years of playing PR.

Yeah, I thought that it was just an accepted fact of PR not a bug. But i never noticed that it hovered. Dang, now thats going to annoy me till its fixed.

yeah, I just randomly noticed it while flying as passenger one day. Now I can't take my eyes off it. LOL. Glad that you were able to see it.

I not an arms expert, but just looking through some google images it looks like the red line is supposed to be at a different angle. It might depend on the exact model though.

This may be, but if you try this out for yourself, you'll notice that its not that the red line bit is supposed to be at a different angle, but that it never changes its angle along with the rest of the weapon. It stays pointing the same angle as though you're just walking forward. The angle stays the same always. So even if the red line bit were in a different plane than the rest of the scope, it would still have to change its angle with the rest of the scope accordingly when the viewing angle is changed.

I don't think that's a bug at all.. even the last post you made, I really don't think its as you think it is. The red on the ACOG is as mentioned above, on an angle with the rest of the rifle. And as per your follow up post, the fact that the red line portion of the model is closer to being perpendicular to the first person view makes it seem to alter angle less when the rifle shifts. You can get the same concept by hold your hands together in an X shape, one on top of the other. Have one hand pointing forward with the other on top of it pointing to your left or right. Move your hand similar to how the rifle changes in your view in-game and youll see that the "rifle" portion of your hand seems to change a great amount while the other pretty much maintains its line... Hard to explain, sorry, but like I said, I think you're making this out to be a bug when its really a matter of the ingame perspective playing tricks on you(?)

Essentially, the rifle isnt being rotated around a point when you are in a chopper and get the rifle to move like that. Its more like shifting along a plane in front of you. Something straight in front of you pointing away from you will look "straight when in front of you, but when its off to your right, you can see the side of it (like the rifle). And something not as straight to and from you wont appear to change as drastically when it shifts where it is. Dont know if that comes across clear or not...

unless I still dont understand what youre talking about...

Not sure who's wrong here, Ill try to explain it how I have understood it.
The red line on top of the sight should be attached to the scope in the center, but when he swings the rifle to the right (in the vid at 1,11 min), the red line stays in its position and is hovering outside, or on the very edge of the scope, regardless of whether the rifle is centered or held normally. Thus the sight stays always in the same angle, as if you would look from the side on it.
And if you pay attention to the gap between the red line and the sight itself (while hes looking at the ocean) its seems as its hovering above it.

Uhhh confusing I hope you got it Okita

Hah, I think confused you and you just followed up by confusing me ;) Its also 520AM here now and I should get to bed.

Im not sure I really understood what you were saying but I THINK you are mistakenly thinking like some other users that the red line should be going straight down the sight in line with the barrel of the rifle. When in fact, as in the image posted on page 1, the red line starts closest to the butt of the rifle on the right side of the sight, and angles in towards the left side as it heads away from the player/soldier.

The floating look it has is because its encased in some sort of clear tubing. To be honest, I really dont know what that is exactly, but if you look at rea images of it, you can see this clear tubing that surrounds the red... I wont show my ignorance more though because I dont know what these parts are ;)

Maybe the OP can post a higher res image of the two stages and point out more clearly what he means... because right now, all I can say is, the red line is not supposed to be straight with the barrel/sight and is correct as it is now. It is, as far as I know, all one model and therefore it is moving as one, fused, model in game :) But ultimately, an xfire video doesnt seem to be getting the point across(if there is a point that is not covered by what Im saying here)

after some searching:
the tube on top of the ACOG scopes is a fiber optic rod. It is there for only one reason, to pick up light for daytime illumination of the reticle. The reticles are also tritium illuminated for low light and night use. If you cover the fiber optic rod in daytime use it will not light the reticle. The tritium is not bright enough for day light illumination either.
So i guess its just a tube of fiber optic wire to collect light for sight illumination... but as to why its not in a straight line? Maybe just because of design, not function... I really dont know. I still dont know if thats covering part of the "bug" some of you claim to see... Heh

Im off to bed...

OOOHHH now I see, cheers Okita for the pics + explanation. Never mind its not a bug nor any kind of issue.

Thread can be locked now.

Its not a bug. Also, reported.
