Now I Know a lot about maps has been talked about.
Here's my Suggestion

Big Note Here : Fictional or Real.

Invasion scaled AAS maps.

We already have Invasion styled maps in PR. ( Jabal/Mutrah/Barracuda/Kashan/Quinling )

By Invasion I mean one team has the General Objective of Holding ground and the other to take it or both are on an offensive

Example1:

US Forces Launch an Joint Invasion force of US Marines and NAVY pilots to engage in
Search and Destroy Operations to Neutralize NVA Weapon depots and SAM sites.
The success of the Operation will allow increased Bombings in the Capital Region and open the way force more airborne assaults.

USMC :
-Infantry
-Heavy Armor
-Off map support Or Jets/cas

NVA :
-Infantry
-Heavy armor
- AA and Jets ( like the MiG )

Example 2:

US Forces attempt to seize control of North Vietnams' Capital in hopes to end war

You get the picture.


So I'm asking for

Maps of battles that could of happened within a realistic context.

More Conventional Warfare maps rather then Guerrilla Warfare fight with
VeitCong/Insurgents.

And if this has been covered before, the comment/thread isn't easy to find. ( I used the Search Feature with many different tags )
And the maps thread says nothing about fictional invasions etc.

i dunno man, when you're dealing with a subject like Vietnam, it kind of pays to be realistic in the sense of where it is and what you're doing (as well as the North Vietnamese using tanks at a given stage), otherwise it will just end up like Battlefield Vietnam.

Your idea would be good, say, in an Operation Starlite map (discussed previously on a thread months ago). US Marines landing ashore by helicopter and landing craft/amtracs; except it would be the Vietcong and they'd have no aircraft or armour.

if your talking about "fictional" to make it a bit more interesting ... should we have a Soviet Faction??? and French faction . . i know france has somthing to do with the Vietnam war i dont know the whole history

Up until 1954 it was basically a French colony, south was French, north was Chinese. US involvement was from around 1959 when a US Major and M/Sgt were killed in a terrorist attack. I'm not 100% as my history is a little rusty.

Stuff like this gives me the feeling that nobody knows anything about Vietnam. Like how half the US believes we won and the other half believes we actually invaded Vietnam. Anyhow, there were plenty of urban battles as is, and creating fictional scenarios to display Hanoi is pointless when you already got Hue, Saigon, Bien Hoa, Quang Tri, etc. Especially Hue. And there were tank battles, the two most famous engagements being Lang Vei where NVA forces with PT-76s overran a US special forces camp, and Ben Het where a force supported PT-76s attacked a US base that had M48s protecting it. 2 NVA tanks were lost, in addition to 1 US tank I think. Or at least one US tank was hit and 2 crewmen killed. And those weren't the only tank battles.

Oh, forgot to mention, another misconception about Vietnam is that it was all guerrilla warfare. It wasn't, so don't worry about guerrilla maps only, I'm sure the PR staff know what they were doing. For the most part the NVA fought a conventional war, and the VC who did most of the guerrilla stuff were a secondary force for most of the war, especially after '68. Most people did not consider it conventional, but that was only because the NVA in the South lacked heavy artillery, air, or armor support. They were light forces but still fought like a normal army much of the time.
