The last few weeks have been getting these CTDs when I play PR. Prior to the problem I haven't touch any files regarding PR or BF2, the problem seems to have just appeared.

I have searched these forums for a clue to solve the problem and I have also search for a solution using google but nothing I have tested have been successful.

The problem
I can often play a round or two before the first CTD hits me.

After re-joining I can keep playing for 10-20 minutes before the next CTD occurs.

If I rejoing again I will CTD within a few minutes and the only way to solve this is to restart my computer, but that only throws me back to stage one and I will CTD again after an hour or so of gameplay. Rinse and repeat.

Error messages
When I run the game in window mode I seem to get different error message for each CTD.

What have I tried so far?
I have...
- Completely reinstall BF2 and PR

- Updated punkbuster

- Updated windows and the .NET framework

- Run the game as administrator and in XP compatibility mode

- Updated driver for my graphics card

- Installing 1.41 then 1.5 and then 1.41 again (seemed to work but started CTDing again after a few days)

- Increasing the virtual memory

Workaround to play PR
- I only get these CTDs on some specific servers. These are the NwA and Merk servers. I can play fine on all the other servers that I have tried, for instance Skyttegrav.se, UK Warfare, coffeeshop and Pelitutka.
Since thep roblem is server specific find a server that you do not CTD on.

Real solution - thanks to Keso
-Unplugged all HDDs except the system drive (Removed the SATA cables))
-Created a Boot-disc with "Active@ Kill Disk" on.
-Started the computer with the boot disc and formatted the drive (Kill Disk is filling the drive with Zeros (0) once so no other traces of the previous installation is left)
-Installed W7 Ultimate 64 and all patches. Even the latest DirectX and the latest drives for the GPU.

-Installed Battlefield 2, patch 1.41 and 1.50 (as an administrator)
before the installation I closed Windows Defender real-time protection.

-Started Bf2 and checked that it worked.

-Installed PR. Pressed "YES" When the question about punkbuster came up.

What about the 1.41 and 1.5 updates?
What version of .NET Framework do you have?
* .NET Framework 4
* .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
* .NET Framework 3.0
* .NET Framework 2.0
* .NET Framework 1.1

I got 22 hits using 'search':GhostManager.cpp

Also I believe W7 doesn't need XP compatibility mode for PR/BF2

I downloaded the 1.41 and 1.5 patches when I reinstalled BF2 and PR.

I have .NET Framework 4

It seems that for some people, uninstalling BF2 from the windows "programs and Features" isn't enough, you have to manually erase all traces of the BF2 installation.

I did this yesterday and could actually play the entire evening without any CTDs for the first time in weeks.

I'm not ready to call this problem solved yet though but I hope for the best.

*Sigh* Say the joy that last.

After playing most of the evening today the CTD happened again, I rejoined and as before CTDed after 15 minutes again.

This problem refuses to go away. I tried to increase my virtual memory but that didn't help either.

There have been some progress on this matter.

installing 1.41, then 1.5 and then 1.41 again caused md5 errors on some servers so I reinstalled everything again from scratch. So don't try that.


What I have found out though is that I can play on some servers without getting random CTDs but on other servers I get CTDs all the time.


The servers I know 100% I can play on without any problems are so far UK Warfare and Coffeeshop. Servers I know 100% I get CTDs on are Merk and NwA.

So, somehow these random CTDs seems to be related to what server I play on. very odd.

Exactly the same problem as I have. NwA and Merk, along with U*N*S*T*F I CTD from randomly all the time. I can play maybe one hour before the first one and after that CTD the interval is shorter and shorter. Some servers works great. =]H[= Hardcore, TG and other American servers works fine. Havent really tried the german servers because I always disconnect before the CTD can happen (No good gameplay on german servers for non-german speaking players)

The servers I disconnect from all seem to be stationed in the UK. I can play on the american ones without CTDing.

Could this be because me and the op is both from Sweden, and therefor having problems with UK networks, I dont know Long random shot but whatever, you gotta narrow it down, right?

Though, I can also play on the UK Warfare server..
