Error reading from server

After Gamespy/whatever has moved its servers I am getting this message (There was an error reading from server) every time a round ends and occasionally during play. Furthermore, my view distance seems to be default 85% despite being set to 100% in options.
I belive it has something with that erver movement or whatever it was, but my question is, is anyone having this kind of problem and is there any way to fix it?

It's not Steam, it's Gamespy :p . But yes, many get this message, even when you're connected to a local server you can get logged out :-\.

(unless you use an "offline" account, instead of your online account ofc)

But R-Dev, that doesn't answer the question, is there anything to do about it?

I've been getting a "The server has refused the connection." message all day yesterday and today. I can't even get past the login.

I am getting the same error. 'error reading from server'
I can log in to a server but as soon as I quit that server the message appears.
I am using XP

It has been happening since yesterday (Thursday 26th)

Tried this fix from another thread, it seems to have fixed the issue:

'Trash your BF2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.

Good luck'

Thanks

Unfortunately deleting the cache didn't work for me. I do have a different issue than you though :(

AFAIK this has to do with the gamespy error that happened a day or two ago when moving the servers or something, I get this message too sometimes, and everyone who plays vBF2 got all their unlocks taken away

I used EA's live chat feature to ask about it and I got "This is a known and temporary issue. Our engineers are working to fix this." It was worth a try though. I guess I'll just be on PR hiatus for a few more days.

Good to hear that, that "remove cashe" seems to fixed the problem for me, at least with the graphic quality settings, I didn't receive any error yet either.

So, kinda - solved.

Edit: thanks everyone ;]

Here is some info from another forum:

Official Information About Weapon Unlocks - Battlefield 2 General Discussion (General Game Discussion) - Battlefield 2: EA Forums

Gamespy is the cause of the issue and they have no idea of how long it's going to take to get all the bugs they created fixed.

Despite this extremely inconvenient bug, there were still many PR servers with 62-64 players on them. Upon map change everyone would just reconnect. This tells us two things: the PR community is very dedicated and very addicted.

It did have the serendipitous effect of shuffling the deck after each round so that one side was not clobbering the other round after round as so often occurs.

Obviously it's not, but anyway.

What I find extremely annoying is that if I receive that error and login back to game I'm almost guaranteed that my view distance will be set at 85% (the default valute...) and all the grapic settings back to LOW.
Now, that just sucks. It seems like you need to restart the whole PR to get it back to normal (and don't get the error again while loading).
