The damn BF2 birds

As you all know, BF2 has a nice little feature where birds randomly pop out of some bushes and likely giving your position away....
But does anyone how random these birds are or what is actually triggering them.

I remember in Muttrah once where I was leading a squad and saw birds popping up from the roundabout. All my squad-members were behind me, so it couldn't be one of us. I immediately told my squad there was an enemy in the roundabout. We surrounded the thing only to find.....no enemies..... so it seems it doesn't always require a player near a bush to trigger the birds flying away....

-edit-

Trigger Events

"Trigger" events activate when a vehicle comes within a specified distance of an object. Triggers are created and registered for by:

Code: Select all

 bf2.triggerManager.createHemiSphericalTrigger
      (object, triggerEventHandler, objectName, radius[, data])
or

Code: Select all

 bf2.triggerManager.createRadiusTrigger
      (object, triggerEventHandler, objectName, radius[, data])
In standard Battlefield 2, trigger events are used to track scoring for flag captures (triggers activate whenever a player enters or leaves a fixed radius around each control point), as well as effects such as birds (birds are triggered to take flight whenever a player enter their trigger radius).

There should be more of this random stuff imo. Doors slapping, dogs barking etc.

Gunshots also trigger the birds flying away effect, it could have been anything really.

The ones on muttrah can be triggered from quite a distance away.

the effect has a set radius and is set to react to certain things

the radii are sometimes quite large for the trigger effect, and in a battlfield I'd expect the birds to be pretty skittish anyway :P

The mapper decides when the effect is triggered basically. As Rudd says, you can set a radius to the effect. Next to that, you can set when it will trigger, like, by movement/explosion/fire/time and how often it can trigger. Like, how many seconds between triggers, etc.

iirc they were ambient noise depending on where you were

Maybe some "left over mines" would be cool :-P
jk

I wouldnt mind more random events. The birds have given away my location numerous times, but i also use them to locate enemy infantry and vehicles.

Yup, they were most noticeable by the downed Japanese Zero static, where the small land bridge was on the river.

There were also some down in the reeds where the PLA RIB spawned.

The Sunset City waterfall had fish that jumped out of the water when you got near them.

I always thought they were kinda build in effect of a bush. Didn't knew the mapper had any control over it :p
