Would for any reason any of these parts not go well together? Also how do you feel it would run arma2?

Why are you getting a 9800? Its a good card sure, but not with an i7 rig...I would say save yourself some money by getting a less expensive case and get a DX11 card at least (5770 or Possible a GTS450)

Its just dumb to spend $300 on a processor and $100 on a Graphics Card. I would really go with a DX11 card if you're trying to get the most bang for your buck. The 9800GT is just a bit out-dated.

I'd go EVGA as their Customer Support is top notch.

You're not going to be able to use DDR2 with that mobo, its specs say DDR3 only



I would also agree that buying an i7 and then a 9800 is a waste. Buy a cheaper processor and put the cash into your GPU, you won't regret it.

My personal quick suggestion for a cheaper CPU: Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-760 Lynnfield 2.8GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80605I5760

I haven't done a huge amount of research, but its still got an 8MB L3 cache and is $100 cheaper. It's certainly a small performance hit, but if you need to save some money to spend on RAM and a GPU that's good bang for your buck. If you aren't worried about the money then go for the i7.

1 - Unless you really have money to spare - Replace i7 with i5 750 then OC - Unless new i7 socket is a must (shouldnt be really since intel will probably have 2 new sockets out before the time of your next build)

2 - Any new build should include DDR3 RAM and check with MOBO and CPU manufacturer for complete match or recommandations.

3 - Buying a 9800gt with a new rig like that = Buying plastic hub caps for a BMW m5 2010.

4 - If your plan is a rig for PR and Arma2 R, seriously consider a Solid State Drive. Nothing under a ATI5770 or Nvidia 260gtx and atleast 4 gigs of DDR3 ram.

5 - Ill build you the dream machine if you buy us all parts x 2 lol

A good rule of thumb when building a rig is to compare prices and read alot of reviews - benchmarks. You will never find a good reliable and acclaimed PC part without paying the required price for it, never.

Compagnies always update their prices depending on the performances and reviews, after ripping off a few people with the hype in the beggining. Thats is why you can find 1000$ i7, 300$ i7 and 300$ Duo cores.

The idea is to get the best compromise using your logic, while always keeping in mind what the rig will be used for.

If you want amazing PR gaming, keep in mind: SOLID CPU, min. 4g RAM, fast and defragged Drives and a Reliable Video Card and MOBO (pays off alot to read about SATA/RAM bandwidths and specs of a motherboard)

Well I'm looking to spend around 1200 but can go up higher. Does any one have any links to some good parts that would be good for my build? (preferably newegg I get a 10% discount off of all of it.)

Instead if 9800 GT I would recommend GTX 460. It doesn?t cost much more than 9800 GT but has much more power. And maybe change from i7 to i5 750 and then add a little and get a ssd drive for your os and games. That will give you a performance increase that you can really feel. But that depends on your budget. I don?t know how much ssd cost in USD.

Also a thing to think about. A Swedish hardware site did a test to see what gives the most performance increase. A better cpu or gpu. The result was that the gpu gives more than a cpu so I recommend that you rather go for a i5 750 and get a better gpu to get the most out of your new rig. And a ssd drive would really speed up those loading times and even windows booting time.

If you want to theck GTX 460 out you can search for a few tests on Tom?s hardware.
(For reference: 5850 and 470 are the cards that are right under 480 and 5870 which are the top single gpu cards for nvidia and ati/amd)

I'm feeling pretty lazy haha. My main problem is I haven't built a computer in 8 years so I'm thinking it would be better for me to pay to 200 for someone to build it so I don't ruin other parts. The only thing really in the way of swaying my mind is the tower not having enough fans/ running way to loud and the motherboard in the dell.

So thats about 1300$ for a rig that will litteraly EAT that DELL one for breakfast. lol.

Just think about it, 3.4ghz quad core, 8 gigs of ddr3 (with possibility to double it later on), HD5870 with a SSD.

You will run any game throwed at you for a few years. Crysis, Arma2... You name it.

As I said before another big problem is I haven't built a computer in 8 years and run the risk of screwing something up.

I had never built a computer before 3 weeks ago, I put together an awesome rig for $750 without screwing anything up. If you're paying $400 for assembly of inferior parts you're doing something wrong.
