who is going to want to man mortars?

anyone? We know that .95 is going to have deployable mortars and it is going to have a very realistic use for them, as in spotters will be absolutely necessary. But who in their right mind is going to want to spend an entire round just waiting for fire missions and running a ballistic computer?

I think everyone will want to try them
I find stuff like that fun, like the arty in FH2 for example.

I will be glad to use them. People who can use them properly will most likely loved to death by desperate teammates.

"Hit." would be enough for me. Other people's happiness tickles me in the right places.

I'm sure squads in a defensive position will be fine in having something more to do.

Without ANY doubt, I will, the same way I will happily do logistic runs, taxi-service or sit in an observation point the entire match if necessary. I have been banging on about mortars since the first days of PR, and after seeing some very early models being considered I knew we would have them. I salute them, and though I'm a lot better at directing, correcting and calling-in fire I would still sit in the pit if needs be.

I can see myself being a forward observer for them, but honestly sitting behind the main on Fallujah won't be that fun.
What is going to be fun on the other hand, is putting an SPG-9 on top of the power plant on Ramiel and shooting down
everything.

I'm down to do mortars. Aside from the fact that it's another thing for defense squads to do, I often prefer to take support roles versus direct combat rolls. This would include supplies, artillery, transport, building, recon, or other roles whose primary purpose isn't closing with and destroying the enemy. I also like doing the whole armor thing because I generally find it pretty laid-back, most notably on insurgency.
These jobs are great when you aren't in the zone and prepared to undertake the stresses of, say, house-to-house infantry combat, because even in PR you can begin to experience combat fatigue from being constantly engaged with the enemy, endlessly clearing houses and crossing streets uncertain of the fate ahead. Ultimately though, I try to take up a role that brings a needed asset to the team, as sometimes there is no one building FOBs, or there are no armor squads, or transport is desperately needed. Or everyone is busy manning mortars, flying helos and CAS and the team desperately lacks infantry.
Unsung hero roles, ftw.

I will.
Your entire argument kind of unraveled there, didn't it?

Being a defensive player I'd happily send rounds down the range for my team. As long as I know I'm hitting my targets and helping my team achieve their goals, i'm happy.

Me me me!! I'm the kind of guy to not mind driving trucks around the whole game should the team need it.

When the next version hits I'm going to broaden my PR game so much! Only today on NWA I realised I'm playing SO much as infantry. I didnt even know what button to fire the bomb-car with. And everytime (wich is almost never) when I'm in an non-infantry situation I'm clueless on what to do! So to answer your question:
Hell yeas! I'm gonna try my hand and crewing, spotting and building those bad boys

I will man the mortar no prob. You dont only man it for you're squad, you man it for the team. If you're good enought with that baby, you will be a BIG factor of win.

Its like asking another silly question like...
Whos gonna wait the entire round with a cell phone in his hand in hopes of blowing up the Thermal imaging Tank
All the experts will. Especially if the kills/points go to the mortar team. Then everybody will become experts lol

Could have used Taliban deployed mortar on Operation Archer today when the canadians dug in on the compound west of the village!
