Why no pistols????

Why are pistols only for officers, pilots, and snipers?
In the real world, everyone carries a pistol or at least some type of sidearm in the case their primary weapon runs out of ammo or becomes combat deficient. This doesn't make any sense!! The question whether it's needed or not is up to the players, but reality says a pistol is a must have.

Considering that PR has extensive military advisers I'm pretty sure they got this one right.
Not to mention my own experience says other wise.

nope ..its been discussed to death and only certain people in the military carry side arms, its not like COD4 or bf2, they have it wrong

Question being answered, I ask you now... Why do you think sidearms are for all?

I'm very glad that PR got this right.

Almost every military only issues sidearms to the men that need it, or officers.

Naval personnel are issued sidearms, usually as their only firearm, but in the Army and Marines unless you're a spec ops operative or a tank crewman or something, you're issued a rifle.

Why don't pilots have ANY weapons?

Because people were paradropping in with pilot kits and other stupid stuff in previous versions. They are re-adding pistols in .95 but pilots can only use the pilot seats(Or they'll die after a little while).

Because people were doing paratrooper assaults with them, using the pilot's parachute.
It's dumb, especially because in real life most helicopter pilots have a rifle in addition to a pistol. But this has been discussed before, so I'll let it rest.

On topic, I don't really see whiy a pistol is neccesary for most soldiers in PR.
The officer, well, that's following realism.
The sniper, if he's attacked at close quarters he needs to defend himself, and that's hard with a bolt action rifle.

For everyone else, it seems either unneccesary or unrealistsic. A rifle on full auto is better for CQB, to be honest.

Why do officers have a pistol in real life? They have a rifle too, so what's the point? Is it because they are considered more important?

Wait....what?

So If a pilot is waiting at the runway for a jet to spawn, he will randomly start taking damage? Or if a heli gets shot down and the pilot escapes, he will just die after awhile anyway?

TBH if this is the case, I would rather the pilot just remain unarmed.... But, Oh well, not my decision.

The actual rule is (NOT QUOTED VERBATIM):

"Pilot kits may not occupy seats in an air vehicle EXCEPT for pilot and gunner positions. Doing so will result in black screen followed shortly by death." (No effect on extravehicular situations)

Before you claim that this makes air rescue impossible, remember that you can drop your kit before boarding the rescue chopper.

BTW IRL different nations have different rules and regulations regarding sidearms. German soldiers in Afghanistan for example are not allowed to leave camp without carrying their Rifle plus a sidearm.
This sidearm isnt always a pistol. Looking at recent footage from Afghanistan youll see a lot of Mp7s carried in addition to a Rifle.

That may be true, and also in real life a lot of equipment is differentiated between platoons units etc and PR just tries to find a realistic medium. Basically what we get is a rule of thumb for most countries armies etc as it would be unbalanced/too much work to differientiate to much.

No. Stop spreading false information. You cannot get in passenger seats inside aircraft, ground vehicles you can, because what harm can you do there?

wasnt expecting a g36+mp7 in the rifleman kit anyway :-P
and PR still has the BF2 restriction of having only so many weaponslots which is another reason for not everybody in PR having sidearms.
But if you would throw away the knife and fight with the shovel (which isnt unrealistic) you would gain a slot for the mp7^^

Military Advisors say no.

Pistols were removed from most classes based on feedback from people who are currently serving. So, yeah, locking this. Also, no suggestions outside of the suggestion forum.
