I got a couple of question.

When installing mumble what do you guys/girls mostly put it on? (Push to talk or pick up voice)

I downloaded Mumble 1.2.2 is that fine or no?

You need to get PR:Mumble, our own version of the program.

I believe that PTT is disabled intentionally in PR-Mumble; if you're out of game, and you begin talking, everyone can hear you.

Choose what's best for you. Some people use a key like c or n, close to their BF2 VOIP keys, some people use one of the programmable buttons on their mouse.

I think it was intentionally limited to PTT. Likely to prevent spam but I'm not sure.

Edit: Woahhhh lots of people replyed while i was typing :|

I've changed my BF2 controls to allow for Mumble and other comms
F = BF2 voip
G= Local mumble
H= Global mumble
V= Teamspeak
Also, * and - are my mute/deafen keys

IIRC (don't have mumble in this PC) you go to options then assign keys, then you click "assign new key" or something like that and you choose "Local Speech" and assign a key, and then "Squad Leader Channel" (also known as "Force-Center") and assign another key.

I don't have Mumble installed in my PC, but if I recall correctly, you assign keys to "Local Speech" and "Squad Leader Channel" in the "Shortcuts" tab when you open the Options menu.

At this "Shortcuts" tab, you press a button which, if I remember, is in the bottom right of the window. It should read "assign key" or something like that. If you press that, I think you'll be able to assign keys to such fuctions (Local and Squad Leader channel).

Configure > Settings > Shortcuts

Change the Shortcut for local speech.

If you don't already see "Local Speech" in the list then click "Add"

Change the function to "Local Speech" and change the shortcut to whatever you want. I would also suggest assigning something to the "Squad Leader Radio" function.

After that click apply and your good to go.

Also, do not apply changes while you are connected to a server, it will crash your Mumble.

If I were you, I would just do what you think is the most comfortable option for yourself. In other words the buttons that are comfortable for you to reach, because talking on mumble is usually quite common when in a server/event using it. For example my VOIP key is my MOUSE3 button, but my mumble PPT is "v". Both of these buttons are always available making it easy to talk in both VOIP and Mumble. But this also has to do with what type of mouse you are using. My mouse only has MOUSE1, MOUSE2, and MOUSE3, so i was very limited in the choosing of my controls, otherwise I would've kept both my PPT keys on my mouse because your hand rarely leaves the mouse if ever. And afaik you can change your PPT key ingame, so you can test and change on the go. Hope this helped..

I use H for local speech and Y for SL Radio. Just pick whatever is convenient for you, expect to use these buttons A LOT.
