installing PR2 vs .95 problem

Hello

I just completed what I thought was a simple clean install and have run into a problem.
The following list details what I have installed so far:

-Battlefield 2
-BF2 Patch 1.41 & 1.50
-PR 0957 Full

I tried to launch PR2 but the only thing I could see was the splash screen and then nothing!
I installed pr 0874 core setup and tried again......... nothing.

As far as I can tell, I have all the current and up to date files. I would like to ask if this is correct or did I forget something.
If everything is here, then I'm scratching my head as to why I can't launch PR2?

Any help or suggestions will be very appreciated.

Thank you

if this is the problem i think it is i had the same issue on both my machines. i solved it by running vanilla bf2 after i had pr all installed and logging into my account that way, i also set up my options while i was at it but that may be unnecessary. once you quit bf2 and try and launch pr again you'll probably get a message that hides behind the splash screen, just ok it and it should launch... hope it helps.

This will happen sometimes, annoying side effect of something else. If it does just hang for over a minute .... go to the task manager and close pr.exe down. Wait 30 secs and try launching again.

If it keeps doing it, then post the contents of prError.log.
I installed pr 0874 core setup and tried again......... nothing.
Big mistake. Delete all PR folders and start the installation from scratch. We are on 0.957.

Hi Fish.
Thanks for the tip. I'll try it again and see what happens. Hopefully this will work.
I'll let you know what happens.

Hi Helix

Ok, I'll give your suggestion a try shortly and see what happens.
Just a quick question, do I still need to install the core files?

Thanks

Hi again

Please disregard the question about installing core files. I was thinking of something else when I typed that!

Cheers

Hi again.

Well, I tried launching PR but nothing happened again. Here is the entry from the error log. Perhaps you can shed some light on this when you get a chance.

Thanks.

Sounds like you might have installed PR in an admin account and then you are trying to play it from a user account (or the other way around)?

Start vanilla BF2 in your user account and see what happens. (start it in admin account as well for the hell of it).

Basically the game can't find your profiles directory, I actually had a pop up message explaining this and what to do .... but this error comes from another thing that got added on later and so doesn't trigger the message.

What to do in this situation (which will only occur if this is a NEW installation of Battlefield 2), is to launch vanilla BF2 and recover your profiles. Then exit and try running PR.

Hi Helix

Just letting you know that I finally got PR2 up and running. I did perform a clean install of BF2 & PR2. Once they were installed, I launched BF2, closed it and then PR2 launched without issues.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers.

Oh yes, this sounds familiar and without question, very annoying.
Here is what you do to fix the problem and start playing. Well, at least that is what I ended up doing and all worked out.

1. Delete all traces of Battlefield 2 & PR2 from your computer. Delete everything and then go and look for any left over files or folders and delete them as well.

2. Install Battlefield 2 on your computer. You do not need to install Special Forces etc.

3. Proceed to install the following files in this order:
-BF2 Patch 1.41 & 1.50
-PR 0957 Full

Note: If you have any CORE files, do NOT install them. In fact, delete them from your computer so you don't accidentally use them. By installing these, you will cause problems and PR2 will not launch.

4. Once you have installed all the above files, launch "battlefield 2" , not PR2, just Battlefield 2. This allows the computer to register the needed files to run the game. You don't need to do much except run the game for a few minutes, so play a round against the computer. Fire a few shots and quit the game.

5. Once you've quit Battlefield 2, launch PR2. All the required files should now be detected by your computer and it will launch for you.
You may get a message that the game requires the ".exe" extension or something along that line, so if this message pops up, ignore the shortcut that the computer created on your desktop and go to "start", "all programs", "project reality" and launch PR2 from there. You can create a desktop shortcut from that location.

You should be good to go at this point. Give it a try.
