Why make a squad with no mic?

I have to say it really annoys me when I join a sqaud and the team leader has no mic.

I'd rather play with people without a mic then people running in front of my gun.
I don't own a mic for different reasons, but I'm able to play PR with some tactical teamwork, not always, but sometimes, and that is enough for me.

Laziness - This doesn't make sense
Cost - I will only be using it maybe 3 times per month, not an incitement enough
Also, I'm living with my family and I don't like talking to "nobody" with my parents around. It feels weird.

Problem is that most of the players without a mic are those who are inexperienced.
I could play just fine with buddies without using mics though.
I'd much rather have a good micless player than you to be honest. If the SL doesn't have a mic just leave the squad, no need to troll or whatever.

Brummy knows this very well, he was banned from using the mic late at night and worked fine with him.

I know it's a bit imature of me to do this, but come on how much are mics now? This game is about team play and you have to communicate in this game.
That is indeed very immature of you. Just because they haven't got a mic doesn't mean you should ruin the game for them, they have every right to play it as well, I know I would've shot you if you did that to me, regardless of wether I had a mic or not.
Of course it's a limitation because they don't have a mic, but as pfhatoa have his reasons for not having a mic, they might as well. What if their just got broken and they still want to play...?

I was not banned I was simply avoiding awakening the lady.

You should be ashamed of yourselves ruining the game for others like that.
This is a pretty big self pwn tho. "I dont like it when others dont have a mic so i start griefing them Trolololo"

Not everyone wants to use their microphone or buy one, its their own choice and I respect that. Don't tell me you all used your microphones 24/7 when you started playing VOIP games that would be bullshit.
Using a microphone is something to get used to, some of the guys not using them don't have the time or the situation to use one. I fully agree however on VOIP and Mumble improving gameplay greatly.

So they don't have the time to use a mic, something that takes 5 seconds to plug in, yet they have the time to play a round of pr..... hmm that makes sense.
On another note I dont mind players not having mics so long as they type in squad chat and still follow orders. However squad leaders not having mics is a big annoyance for me especially as there is a limited number of squads. A squad leader not having a mic pretty much puts his whole squad out of use as he cannot issue orders quickly enough nor move/shoot while doing so.

you've got a point in that creating a squad while being micless is weird and plain impractical. however, you could as well change squads or create one yourself, being the micowner.
I, for one, think micless players that can type quickly are not appreciated enough

Glad someone can see the point I am trying to make. The whole point is I want him to leave so a player with a mic can then lead the squad. What is the point in been a squad leader and saying nothing? There is more to squad leading then just putting a move marker down.
I can deal with members of the team not having a mic, but not the squad leader. I also have to admit I was lying about chasing him around standing infront of his sights.

I'm still a bit baffled by folks who play without a mic and routinely kick them from my squad. They can't communicate effectively enough to function as a squaddy imo. I do tolerate typers, but don't like trying to read their messages in the middle of a fight.
Spend the $5 and be part of the squad...

It annoys me too if the squadleader has no mic. If a squadmember has no mic or cant talk right now, well it cant be helped I guess. If the squadleader has no mic I would just leave the squad and join a proper squad, or ask the people in the squad if they want to join my squad if it is possible. If there are 9 squads my options are to sit it out, switch team or switch server. What i wouldnt do it grief around.
If it is rare enough that a squadmember has no mic, I wouldnt kick him, but if it would become a regular occurrence, I would start checking for mics in my squad and start kicking players with no mic.
For just under 20 Euros you can grab a 5.1 USB Headset on ebay. Its comfortable to wear has good sound and at that price its really great value for money. I dont really hear a difference compared to a 40 or 60 Dollar headset. I would guess to start hearing a real difference you would have to fork out 150 and up.

Hey,
I've been playing PR for quite some time now. While I agree that being a SL without a mic is really impractical, like Wakain said, but I've been in a good squad which the SL was working on a mattress store IIRC (he was the owner I think) and didn't have a mic (couldn't use it).
But this...
jackcr wrote:Infact it annoys me when there is someone in the team who has no mic.
I don't know if you actually meant it. But I'm yet to see a mic'ed player be a better squad member then a buddy of mine, privetdoodles, which I haven't seen for a while, and is micless.
All you gotta do is follow orders and be a fast typer.

A new pr release almost always grantees some new PR players. New players coming from vanilla BF2 or those who picked up BF2 just for PR don't always have mics. They could be top notch, very mature players but they're also new to PR and didnt realize how essential a mic is. In any case Don't be an asshat and create the impression that PR players are a bunch of griefing 5 year olds, especially when you have options available to you such as 1) leaving the squad 2) starting your own squad 3) volunteering to lead the squad you're in.
I highly doubt griefing a person can effectively communicates to them why they should go out and pick up a mic to enjoy PR how it was meant to be played.
