Sniping + Thermal Imaging = Not very fun

Is it just me, or does it seem like on maps with vehicles using thermal imaging [Kashan;etc] where sniping was usually important to a team before .95, that it seems almost impossible to effectively snipe with the addition of thermal imaging to tanks and apc's?
Please discuss (;

No, since you still can pop-out-and-lase you still can spott targets very effectively. you might been spotted earlier but it was a problem of balance in 0.91 that you almost never spotted the spotter (imo)

Sniping was never important. (

)
But I have never really had a problem with it so far. Just actually hide when armour is about.

Ye. Even with thermal sights, you usally see that tank first. Just don't lie on a hilltop without any cover.
Kashan isn't the easiest map for infantry, but that's pretty much intended.

Honestly, if there is a way in their programming to make it so, i think the snipers should be "cooler" on the thermals than other infantry. Like... barely noticable.
seeing how in most cases they would probably cover themselves up with stuff to make themselves less... visable.

I see your idea, but its slightly flawed. Snipers, are still human beings, they will always give off the same thermal as any other soldier or human will do...

If you see a tank its a good idea to hide out of thermal sight - hide behind something instead of going inside the bushes.

Well as a matter of fact, sniping is never important. its what we put for those modern warfare guys. the sniper class just ruins squads. guy joins squad and then either grabs sniper and leave, or not talk and take sniper. it really pisses me off. you dont walk into the front lines with a sniper, nor do you take that kit without asking sl. hopefully now snipers will spot for mortars or something

Obviously you've never played in the PRT. Snipers are amazingly effective if used properly. Plus they can take out specific targets without anybody realizing where they are. On most occasions. ^_^
For instance, I snipe occasionally to, but usually I just call out contacts.

Take a shot, call out 5 or so contacts. Take a shot.

Recon makes snipers useful.

hopefully sniper will have to work as / in squads now and realize their function as scout also more often. otherwise id give it a "lack of teamplay" kick.
staying out of the big business and providing real support (more spotting, less shooting), prevents you* from being shot permanently and from being unpopular on some servers

my opinion.
the thermal sights are truly a great new feature to deal with, but with teamwork its possible, in offensive or defensive matters.
* = concerning all snipers, not only this specific case

Guys... a sniper, when good with comms and specially with a CO, can be pretty useful (except on Kashan TBH).
Now, I read it somewhere that some Ghilie Suits actually do have thermal-masks (whatever you call that). But, since in PR we don't use Ghilie Suits, there isn't really a point of reducing a sniper's thermal signature... But, as the [R-DEV] said (ZZEZ) and Spec Operator... hide! He's got a bigger gun than you.

i can belive you just used the words "sniper", "teamwork", and "important" in the same sentence. unless its "Snipers are not important and they ruin the teamwork".
why would you bother sniping in the first place? its most ridiculous kit there is. its gone within the first 5 minutes of a round because its never used properly. after a while you know exactly where all the snipers set up, so they're not hard to find.
but if you insist, hide behind something solid. snipers are not made of ice, they will show up on thermal like everything else. therefor, finding some way to eliminate them from the thermals is unrealistic(not to mention impossable).

I did quite well on Lashkar Valley last Saturday, playing as a Taliban marksman (SVD not No.4 Lee Enfield.)
Routinely, Puma IFVs would come rolling up the road from the Bundeswehr outpost -- not once did it spot or kill me. The key would be staying aware of your surroundings (Both keeping your ears and eyes out for things that might kill you.) -- and knowing when you need to find a new piece realestate.

Wheelman, don't confuse the players and the kit. Many players don't use the sniper kit properly, but that doesn't mean it has no use.
Once for example it suppressed our whole squad. The sniper was a good shot. We were defending an outpost, I was medic. He got me first. My squad revived me, and at that point, our LAT went down. I revived that one too and we retreated into cover. We didn't dare taking up our old position again - he effectively got us in a bad position, and shortly after, the enemy attacked the outpost, and our ATs didn't get to shoot because we didn't dare getting on a rooftop because we never located that sniper.

I got kicked because of a sniper. (Ok, sniper snipes 3 of my people
inside a vehicle). A SM single-fired a LMG round and BAM, down he was.
So glad, I type "SNIPER DOWN!" on teamchat. Kicked for taunting
See? Snipers can kick squad leaders!

i would express it that way:
32 people playing on one side, each person with its individual task and duties, including snipers. thats how the teamwork thought should start.
many crewmen are lucky as hell if the scout squad spotted and took out the enemy RPG/HAT/TOW gunner before he had the chance to kill the own APC / Tank whatever. teamwork at its best.
nobody, no vehicle and no kit is useless, unless it is used for egoistic and selfish aims.
but thats just my perception.

When i play as sniper i generally end with a 20-0 kill death ratio (most of whom tend to be HAT or enemy snipers trying to get our armour and now with wounds causing tickets i cause even bigger ticket loss's as i no longer have to camp the dead body) and generally call in support fire knocking out several light and a couple of heavy armour(tank or apc) assets in an entire game with my spotter.
As for "thermals make it hard" i enjoy the challenge and so far have won it every time (then again i do sit at like, max view range)

Just learn, adapt and overcome.
