I have already orderd the Case and the CPU Cooler, Cant wait to get all the parts now
Might take a couple of weeks to get it all, but im in no rush

u may want to look into buying a PSU with a higher Watt capacity, what about a bigger harddrive? u may want lots of stuff on your PC? (yeah/no), other than that seems like it should rape any game XD

Oh what about a sound card? or are you happy with on-board sound card?

The dollar/performance ratio of the i7 series is pretty low, I wouldn't recommend buying it. Buy an i5 and save a few bucks, there are no games that are going to effectively leverage that 6 cores any time soon, and the pricing is out of this world. Save ?100 and spend it on 5.1 surround sound or something, you'll notice it a lot more than the extra 2 cores.


Also, you're going to want another drive in addition to that SSD. Any old HDD will do, just look for a good brand name like Seagate, Western Digital, etc. Unless you really think you won't ever use more than ~100 GB (which is what you will get after the drive partitions dead cell replacement space and you install windows), you need a non-SSD



That build will be beast whichever way you go though.

Don't forget to get a copy of windows... You didn't include that one.

For the same price you could grab this
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5870 Vapor-X 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (11161-03-50R) [11161-03-40R] Graphics and Video ATI HD 5870 Series

It has less ram slightly, but blows that 480 out of the water in quite a few specs

PSU is well enough for now, might upgrade if it seems to struggle, Hard drive is a no no im getting a SSD card which are alot faster than HDD's, plus dont have alot of software etc so 120GB will do me.

A mate has the same i7 that im going to be getting and he says he cant hell notice the difference. And the surround sound, im happy with the one on my motherboard.

I already have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 bit, forgot to mention that.
Also the GTX 480 is ten times better than that 5870 mate, thats y i picked it

Plus 120GB is enough for me as I clean my software up alot.

GTX 480 is not much better than a 5870, actually 5870 even beats 480 in some tests and consume way less power and makes less noise. If you want a high high end card go with 5970. Or wait and see how the 6*** series that will be released very soon preforms or what nvidia will counter with.

That is one big PSU. overkill

Buying a quality PSU is a wise decision, as too often people buy one -exactly- matching their system specs, plus the larger ones designed for "hobbyists" often have the cable layouts to thread into those new quality cases with -proper- cable management.

Over time the power output of a PSU degrades, often leaving people with their supply on the limit of what it can deliver, if like this guy you won't be upgrading for a while. Modular PSU's are a no brainer.

Personally i like the coolermaster PSU's but thats personal preference. I can say with confidence that my toughpower has lasted me ages.

I agree with you, but 1000w in a system thats gonna pull 200-220w total?
I could see a coulple of HDD's, SLI a few GPU's, toss in some water cooling use a big 'ol PSU
But he is using efficient parts, and not alot of them.

Cooler Master or Corsair is what I'd go with. Both make Quality stuff.

I think you need to read the reviews more carefully. Quoted figures are always in full system draw. From the very pic you linked

But that doesn?t prevent the X2 from jumping into the 400+ watt system power range in actual games.

I know it was under full load...that's why I linked it. It also has its idle usage too.

Also 750w would be fine for a Single GPU/i7 rig, and I'm pretty sure he knows that 750 would be enough right now, but he's thinking ahead. What if he decides he wants another 480 later? 750 would not cut it then.

Again. 600w under full load (unlikely to see but it could easily use 400-500w under normal circumstances)

and Psyrus if you read a little further down the page they did an Average Power Consumption in a games benchmark. In which it still averaged over 350w.

There's a difference between Overkill and playing it Safe.
