I have been having a hard time getting accurate shots with assault rifles in this game. If I follow the rules--waiting couple seconds and 1 shot every second--I do fine. But what I need help with is, how are some people able to shoot me as soon as they see me? They don't even need to wait. We see each other around corner and they immediately take aim and take me down no problem.

This one time, I managed to flank an enemy line and saw 4 players lined up. I decided not to panic and waited 5 seconds before I started to fire. It took me 2 magazines to kill all four.

At another time, I was on top of a cliff prone position looking down at two soldiers casually walking toward the cliff. I waited and took shots. I clearly saw smoke coming out of their bodies and yet they wouldn't go down. They looked up and I got shot once and I had to go heal. WTF

Whats the damage of assault rifles? How many bullets on body do you need to kill someone?
And how are people able to shoot so accurately so fast? This is making me frustrated.

It takes less time to deploy your weapon (your sights come up faster) with iron or red dot sight than scopes. If your in close quarter combat and someone hits you straight away its due to the small distance between you and the shooter.

Keep in mind that if you go prone ( lie down with "z" ) your deviation will go mad. So if you spot someone and you want to engage fast don't bother going down, either crouch or keep standing although I suggest you find cover before engaging.

The damage of the assault rifle all depends on where you hit. Being shot in the head will take you down immidiatly while a body shot will make you bleed.

i guess there are many things which come into play in this. everyone playing this game surely had 10000 of those situations which you describe, and i'd say just take it easy. usually good teamwork prevents you from dying completely or at least provides you a medic to revive you and kill the evil dude who just put his lucky shot into you.

so i'd say its a mix of these things:

- skill
- deviation
- luck
- unforeseeable things (expect the unexpected!)
- bf2 hitbox
- ...and the internetz! lag is annoying and internet connections / traffic always will affect gameplay

jumping also make your gun inaccurate

5.56 ARs take 3 to the body, 7.62 take 2 to the body.

Luck, luck and volume. Two vs one means they're pumping out twice as many rounds as you, with the random deviation code, that means they've got the advantage. Also, the camera on the player model is in the chest, so if you're "peeking" over a cliff, half of your body is exposed. Now granted, if you followed the proper steps, you can take them on no problem, but I've noticed people seem to think they're being patient and taking their time when under fire, and really they're just blasting away. If you need to, use a watch with a second hand to help you time your firing while in combat

Also, keep in mind the hitboxes on BF2 tend to bug... a lot. Even if you see the smoke coming out of their body, that's no garuntee that the game registered the hit. It's frustrating, annoying and can swing a whole firefight, but there's nothing that can be done about it. I recommend you get a few buddies to your location if you've got the drop on enemies moving in the open.

Electro, the optics and ironsight rifles have the exact same deviation code, the exact same recoil code. The manual is referring to the time it takes for the sight to come up.

Also the time is the same now. I have already changed it for the next revision. The main difference between magnified sights and the others is the blurry peripheral vision.

Short movements incur a very mild deviation penalty. If you wait five seconds on a corner before stepping out, your accuracy will remain very near the maximum.

First of all, there are no rules in PR. Minus the ones of the server of course. There is no "magic wait this long before your gun becomes accurate" number. You can think that, but look how much good that's doing you so far. Give yourself some time to settle if you need really accurate shots, otherwise you can just basically go crouch and fire almost right away. Running and shooting is the worst thing you can do, and going prone in a firefight makes you look like an idiot. Use prone if you need a low profile, or need to take long range shots. Otherwise, crouch is just fine.



Second, for 5.45x39, 5.8x42, 5.56x45, 7.62x39 & 7.62x51, and 7.62x54 rounds,
(ak74, QBZ, m16/m4, ak47, m14/G3, Dragunov/PKM) it takes 2 shots in the chest/lower body, 3 shots in the arms/legs, and obviously, 1 shot in the head to kill. With pistols, although they have varying rounds, are mostly 3 shots in the chest, 4 in the arms/legs, and 1 in the head to kill.


Sniper rifles are one shot kills, although I'm not 100% sure if arm/leg shots make you black and white or not.. hm.


Just know each one does slightly more damage than the other. For example, the G3 will do much more damage than the AK74, however G3 has lots of recoil and AK74 has lower recoil. putting more bullets in one place tends to be good

Try practicing firing and deviation on co-op local. Just set the bots to 10, shoot them for a bit, try out the differences and effectiveness of weapons. Then set the bots slowly higher and higher. Once you can play @ 100 difficulty and last more then a few seconds, well, lets just say you know the basics

whatever happened to that awesome video someone made explaining how deviation works....that video should be sticky'd. i've searched for it and couldnt find it...but i know someone out there knows where it is....

You sure?

I'm pretty sure when you aim, at least, your aim is directly on your eyesight line. That's why you can see people just peeking their heads over a cliff and shooting.

Another "difference" thats really just an illusion is when people say reddot/irons are more accurate/have less deviation... And thats because when you are zoomed in 4x with an ACOG or whatever, your rounds will look like they hit farther apart/more spread. But thats just from you being "closer" or zoomed in to where they are hitting...

People complain about that a lot...

I think it was made in 0.8 or before, which means that moving wont reset your deviation to maximum, as it is stated in the video, anymore.

100% sure. When you're prone and aiming forward, you can draw a straight line so it seems like you're looking through their eyes, but if you're prone and aiming downward, this becomes quite obvious. Test it out on a server with some friends some time.

This is also why walls don't give near as much cover as they should, even if you think you're below the wall, your head can still be sticking up over it.

Many people when doing a lot of moving, will switch to auto or burst. This greatly increases the chances of getting a quick hit when rounding a corner or handling a "surprise" confrontation.

When I am clearing a building or crossing an area without much cover, I almost always switch to auto/burst.

People with iron sights have a slight advantage due to speed, but it is those people who have learned to fire from the hip (on auto/burst) who are devastating when rounding corners.

As others have pointed out, some people still belly flop to prone..... but that will get you killed in PR. It is ok if you are taking cover behind something, but those taking a knee will kill you quickly in the open (due to the massive deviation penalty from diving).

Another issue may be your ping, as you will see contact smoke from your rounds hitting your target.... but in reality they haven't been hit at all.

From what I have seen in regards to damage: IDF, Chinese, and M16 AR usually take two or three shots (usually two)..... German and MEC AR one or two (usually two), while the AK is one or two (usually one); the AK is less accurate at distance though. This is just from playing though, as I haven't opened the files to check any damage ratings.

My rule of thumb is that if I am surprised, pour rounds at the problem.
