Just saw this funky new trick (for me anyway) on a server today:

Some guy creates a squad during warm-up, names it "INF VOIP". 5 other people join, and the moment we spawn in the squad leader requests sniper, leaves the squad and creates his own one-man locked squad

So the nicely named INF VOIP squad was also a honey pot to get enough bodies in so he could get himself a sniper rifle... Argh!

Just felt like sharing...

this is new to you? people have been doing that forever. people join my squads all the time just to grab a sniper kit, then they either leave or i kick them.

n00b...how else u gunna get a 1man sniper sqd.

If they want to be a**hats and make a squad just for a gun, I team kill them, Then i let someone else take it, or i have my squad hide it.

A sniper would probably have a spotter go with him in real life, and he would do more than just wander around looking for enemies to kill.

When I see that kind of people I shoot them in the legs just once... the new 0.95 blood effect is so awesome.

Some servers would consider that against their ethos/rules so you could !r (report them) if you think its needed.

I don't get it. If you're in search of an answer to the "one soldier wouldn't kill his teammate over equipment in real life argument", here's an explanation or two:

A rifleman, in a regular infantry unit, has decided to go and obtain equipment without permission and leave his post to use it without the permission or the training. He would receive some type of punishment for the theft and for violating his orders, and only if he wasn't shot by an enemy while he was on his mission to go find and engage random enemies far away from his post.

Otherwise, a rifleman would never be assigned to an infantry squad, then receive advanced training and practice experience on the sniper rifle, be given the appropriate equipment for a sniper, and then be reassigned to his own squad, leading nobody and having free reign to go anywhere and do or engage anything.

It's not going to be right to kill someone because they took something and left your squad every time though. Only if it's allowed on the server, and even then you could try to get him kicked for stealing from you first.

TL;DR: If you die in Project Reality, you die in real life.

When I used to request sniper kits like that (I don't anymore; I usually go with a spotter and request with him in my squad), I'd announce over VOIP that i'd be requesting a rifle then leaving. I wasn't going to just join, grab, and go without saying anything.

Snipers work best in a larger squad. When they are off alone they are just easier targets.

The only time that a sniper is actually effective is
A) SL Sniper + Spotter providing intel thru commander or Mumble
B) Sniper + Armour squad
C) Sniper + CAS squad
D) Assasinating that HAT/TOW/HMG/Mortar/AA guy that is REEALLLYYY pissing your team off

That's sort of a wth moment. I don't just start blasting people though.

Sry ppl but when i want to pick a Sniperkit and engage alone i join a sq too and leave it after getting the sniperrifle. But i always as the Squad if it's ok, when i leave after that.
