* CHRISTMAS 2011 UPDATE *
The Map Pack from last year 2010 christmas event is now running on

If any server admins would like to contact me in regards to a christmas event with this map WITHOUT FPS issues with
full insurgency 64 mode also id be happy to arrange the files for you.

Hi Community,
I would like to Post a Couple of Preview Screenshots of my new WIP. With my own texture suffix and my WIP snow effect, I hope to have this all in working order for a UK WARFARE event on the Saturday 18th December. I hope to keep this map in the community for maybe future prospects for its use.
Map :- Barentz Offensive
Theatre :- Russia
Size : - 2KM
Factions :- GB VS MILITIA
I've heard how hard it is to make a snow map, but you've done a great job making it look as realistic as possible (given the limitations). I especially like how you replaced the dirt textures with snow on the FOB, truck, etc.
I would suggest you use the snow textures I made, although they aint the best, they are much better than what you've done, no offence. Although I like the idea of the chains on the wheels, but you aint done it very well
Looks awesome Dunem If you pm a texture guy someone will be able to help you out with making some awesome textures for the wheels. I think this map should aim higher than just an event
I have to agree with Rhino though, it looks a bit odd (of course it's still wip I reckon). Perhaps you can look into what he has done, and improve it if/when/where necessary?
Can't remember the setting, but you can change an integer on the overgrowth settings to stop the trees coming out at weird angles as it just doesn't really look natural.

i like how it looks, maybe you could make the snow chains a bump map so it looks a bit more realistic ( it will only show if you have high lighting on).
how about snow on the trees? I wish it was a 4k map
Yeah, the PR must move to Arctic Deserts, and very very snowy terrains, because, not all action is in the sands. We have woodland and desert, why not give a chance to snow?
'[R-DEV wrote:Rhino;1210474']As mentioned before, this map was only developed for a one off community event so what happens to it after that we haven't made our minds up about that quite yet but in order for PR to have an "official snow map", we would need to do lots of work with crating lots of new materials, sounds, effects, textures etc that would take a lot of our workforce and would take a long time to complete, this map is a simple knock up right now
OSS used the sand material for snow, which was the closest material to snow we have in PR/BF2 and you still dont get anything like the right sound when walking over the snow, and when you shoot it, a load of yellow dust pops up etc, and OSS didn't even have any statics in it which would need snow textures. The vehicle/player snow textures where also very basic.

thats intresting to know actually as ive experimented with different stone detail with snow and look very nice.
what id be interested in hearing about next is a color texture for snow, the 1 that is avaliable rocky_snowtop lacks detail and makes these nasty looking black spots on your terrain.
if i tried to crate a snow color texture, could i still impliment it for play using objects_client?
i need to do this also with the snowstorn effect.
