For future reference just write:
I have an Acer Aspire M5100 Desktop with Windows Vista 32bit
- AMD X2 5000+ @ 2.6ghz
- 4GB Ram
- 8800GTS 512MB

Posting all that junk is purposeless and makes people like me want to help you much, much less.

Its not junk, it includes most of my sound, video etc configuration. Chances are somebody would want to know. Anyways, You do not seem to be helping me anyways.

Tbh, after the part that mentions your graphics card, the rest of the information is pretty insignificant. Define lag, how many frames are you getting on what map? afaik what you have should run PR comfortably.

Before you start upgrading parts and messing around with that stuff, make sure that's the issue to begin with.
Make sure your video drivers are upto date
Try changing your settings in BF2, like turning OFF the dynamic shadows and lighting.
Also, try and close as many unnecessary programs as possible when you launch the game
Edit: I also noticed you have a wireless adapter, try playing with a wired connection to your internet

fyi; psyrus can help ;)

Yea, I don't see anything wrong with what you have.
Try updating Nvidia Drivers here -
Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

If that doesnt help. run this when you play
Game Booster 2.0 Free Download, Speed Up PC for Top Gaming Performance

Ah, I am running on a wired connection. Wifi makes PR CTD after 4 minutes.
I lag the most on Fallujah West and Gaza. Kokan aswell. To the point where it is unplayable when I look towards a certain direction. On maps like Barracuda or Silent eagle I tend to get very smooth framerates. When I say lag I tend to mean sub-30FPS. It really makes me not want to play PR... But I still play it even with intense lag because I love the game.

Here are the settings I use,
VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 3
VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 3
VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 2
VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 0
VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 0
VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 2

AudioSettings.setVoipEnabled 1
AudioSettings.setVoipPlaybackVolume 1
AudioSettings.setVoipCaptureVolume 1
AudioSettings.setVoipCaptureThreshold 0.1
AudioSettings.setVoipBoostEnabled 0
AudioSettings.setVoipUsePushToTalk 1

AudioSettings.setEffectsVolume 0.331434
AudioSettings.setMusicVolume 0.33
AudioSettings.setHelpVoiceVolume 1
AudioSettings.setEnglishOnlyVoices 0
AudioSettings.setEnableEAX 1

I will just use 64 Windows Seven then. Augh, I dont know how I will back up my 300gigs stuff without a external drive though.

with 4gb of ram, i think ur fine with ur settings. windows 7 will help. make sure u use 64 bit windows so u can use all of ur ram..running gamebooster can help cuz it closes services/programs u dont need while gaming freeing up some ram.

its been a while since i installed windows 7 but the first time i installed, i was able to put the cd in while logged into windows and install straight from there. this will put all of ur old files into a folder called "Windows old files" or something. u wont be able to use your games or programs in that folder, but it will save ur documents and music and stuff. (however a full reformat is always the best)

for video settings, i recommend
Here are the settings I use,
VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 2
VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 2
VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 2
VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 1
VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 1
VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 2
VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 2
VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 3
VideoSettings.setResolution 1440x900@75Hz
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 2Samples
VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale .95
VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 1

(put terrain and geometry on medium. theres not much of a difference between medium and high and i found that setting geometry to medium helped alot surprisingly. and AA down to 2x) turn on shadows cuz it looks cooler and it helps with fighting. ive had moments where i'd be getting ready to turn a corner and then i see the bad guy's shadow so i know where he is around the corner. dynamic lighting can also be set to low as it makes explosions look prettier. the two dynamic settings shouldnt be too hard on your computer since i think the bottleneck is your CPU not ur video card.

i tested [email protected] 4 gb ram and gtx 470 on ALL settings , get 25 frames on most city maps...

i tested [email protected] 4 gb ram and 5850 ann ALL settings get 25 frames ^^^

i tested on win 32 and win 64 with win 7 and the latest drivers....

i tested all sound settings..

i tested all CPU priority...

PR must be bugged.

PR can be very CPU intensive, I'd recommend keeping the dynamic settings off, it can also improve stability.

My CPU is a 3.0ghz Phenom X2. 8800GTX video card, Win7 64 & 4GB RAM...

My video settings are 16xAA, 16xAF, 1600x1200 res @85Hz, all high in game. I was using 2048x1536 res before the latest patch.

I average about 80FPS with a low of about 50FPS...

why would you link me to an Arma2 bench test? The results would be totally irrelevant to Project Reality.

Very true... I'm not entirely sure why I thought you were referring to PR:ARMA :? Blame the drugs I guess

People tend to forget that the BF2 engine does not support a multi core system. I have a single core 3.0 ghz as well with 2.5 Gb ram with a Nvidia 8600 GT and i can play most maps fine. I do have trouble with Fallujah though.
