Why do we play it, why do we like it?

I like PR because it goes against the tendency of constantly increasing the speed of FPS. In COD4 for example, you get 5 kills a minute, dont need to aim, just rush in, shoot around, kill one or two opponents, get killed and start all over again with almost no thought...

The central element of FPS (winning over your opponent) is being degraded by the sheer number of kills you get. Comparable to the inflation of money - the more you have, the less its worth. And you get all those kills without much thought or commitment, which makes them even less valuable as an reward for your "work".

In PR it will take you A LOT of thought and patience and skill and general commitment (also to your team, because you do not have big chance of surviving as a loner) to get a kill. If you are unlucky and you have to work hard for your first kill, there is no comparable experience in any other game I know.

The tension before my first long-term-intended-kills increased my hearbeat. The feeling of winning over your enemy because you were really better than him (and not only lucky or faster or whatever) gave me a surge of adrenaline at the beginning...

And of course the teamwork is great! There are very few games where it really makes sense to support your team because you can do on your own. In PR you will get a huge advantage by helping your team... And its also fun to achieve something together, and a good feeling if your team appreciates your help!

It takes actual work. Unlike most other games.

Why - because I don't like the fact that we have constant conflicts around the globe and I wouldn't want to participiate in a war myself. Basically I'm a pacifist in some sense. Yet I find everything about wars to be fascinating, hence PR: I can get some of the thrill of being in a real conflict while not endangering myself or anyone else (considering my skill, it would be mostly myself). Simple.

I thought I was the only one considering myself a pacifist (somewhat) here. But the aestetics of war is what I find interesting, for example the huge dust cloud of JDAM. It brings a certain feeling no other game can provide.

.. But then you got sick of deviation making the bullet hit the wall above his head making him move, then the next round hitting his leg, and then him running round a corner back to his squad medic?

(I nearly got 2x kills last night agaist the Brits in Basrah, outmanouvered them and everything. But that happened, lol).

I mainly play PR for the maps. Awesome alternate worlds, better than reality XD.

Played Iron Eagle today and it was amazing. They canyons are astounding, I felt like I were in STAR WARS although I’m not sure if that’s what the PR Devs want to hear.

But then when I actually wanted to play normally, I didn’t like how CPs’ were placed. Too far from each other and not enough of them. On the 32p version there was actually no flag in the medium-sized town near bottom. That was disappointing. But at least you can fly choppers through these STAR WARS-like canyons which is cool. Keep maps like these coming!!

I’ve also played another desert map – very flat one, but I don’t remember its name and there was a huge town in the middle worth at least 4 CPs’ but actually there was not a single flag in in. The closest one was in the refirenery nearby. Such a waste of work and space and object. I’d love to fight in there, in that town

Have you ever thought that you might be someone else's character in his "alternative reality"? Someone could be playing with you right now...

The characters in games are no more or less real than our thoughts:

electric currents and chemical reactions.
