Insurgent Mortar Carrier

This is a suggestion for an insurgent pick-up truck (I don't know how feasible this would be considering the truck's suspension and the recoil of a mortar much over 81mm, but here's hoping) mounting a light mortar. Although I don't have a source that confirms the existence of such a vehicle, insurgent technicals seemingly have no limit to what weapons are bolted to them, and mortar carriers are a staple of conventional forces everywhere (the US Army employs a mortar-carrying M113 variant, for example). There is, however, a reference to Hezbollah mortar technicals in Harold Coyle's decently-researched "Vulcan's Fire".
The immediate problems that come to mind are:
General OPness - First, a mobile mortar would be powerful, but keep in mind that firing with any accuracy while mobile would be impossible, or even - ideally - impossible. Considering the general survivability of such a weapon in comparison to static mortars, it would probably be best if the vehicle be made available only on large, non-urban maps (Archer comes to mind as the ideal map) and that only one is ever available at a given time.
Second, a lower range than existing mortars would likely prove a good idea, forcing the vehicle to be more aggressive in combat and be closer to danger.
Third and final, the supply of a mobile mortar would be significantly more difficult than the supply of static, as crates would not be close by. This would force either the mortar technical to work in constant conjunction with an ammunition technical or regularly RTB, both of which are major handicaps that would limit the effectiveness of such a weapon.
Thanks for reading.

Not a bad idea I guess. Could make it the same as a mobile TOW launcher and have it wait a certain amount of time before being able to fire

I like this, but yeah I don't know if it makes sense realistically, maybe if it was a gary-like truck instead of just a pickup, that might be able to handle it

Actually these vehicles were used in urban environments. They can easily hide between buildings and stuff. They could also use a squad to defend the vehicle while it is fireing. The fireing of mortars while driving is out of discussion, because it is really impossible IRL. It would be a great asset.

That truck must have some awesome suspension.
It also seems like a little bit of over kill, SPG techies should be enough and they aren't too different from a mortar turned on it's side.

I have to say, this is a pretty cool idea.

I would be against mounting a mortar on a truck because I believe it would look more-than-a-bit asthetically weird... That said, I don't think the SPG point is valid because the SPG is both "recoilless" and any recoil it would have would be directed backwards, not into the chassis like a mortar.

Which is why a mortar car would need one hell of a suspension, and how is the SPG techie not like a mortar on it's side for direct fire?

Wait... wut? I dont even? Ha a MOD on board is a gooooooood start to the life of a suggestion!
Yeah even if the mortar being fired actually out the back of the techie is unrealistic Insurgents use pickups to transport the mortars from one place to another to avoid detection and this could just be a place holder for that!

Win
I agree with the Gary idea. Maybe take off the dumpster part, and stick a flat bed with a mortar on.
The SPG techie is an AT launcher, not a mortar. It cant nearly high enough to be called a mortar. Plus its alot harder to aim a long distances. The Insugrent mortars are also quite "crippled" as they have no airburst mortars. A third, mobile mortar with less range than the usual mortar wouldnt hurt them

How about this. get a Gary and model a mortar to the back. for protection and give it a paint job.

If such a mobile mortar is going to make it ingame,
the US and British should get something similar. Like the Stryker variant:
And the British (FV432)
Both capable of firing mortars trough the back hatch.
I think this counter is important since the insurgents already got the advantage over US when it comes to building mortars in cover. The problem as Coalition on INS is that the insurgents can build their mortars anywhere in the city with ease, and it's not difficult spotting the allied mortars built somewhere in the dessert, pretty much on flat terrain. So the mortars of the coalition will be spotted first and destroyed with ease, with the UAV not being ingame any more in patch D it's close to impossible to find/destroy the stationary mortars of the insurgents in a good game. Now imagine them driving around whit the mortars while the coalition has them build as emplacements. It would be the worst ever, as soon as one spot is compromised the mortar truck takes off and finds another one before bluefor even had time to fire of one round.

Yeah, the above would be really, really cool... it was inevitable someone would bring it up.
Anyway, I think we could get away with the mortar being pick-up mounted under the assumption some form of recoil-dampener, however rudimentary, is included in the system, and that the insurgent operator would be willing to put up with moderate suspension damage to his ride in exchange for providing a powerful weapon to the insurgency.
I remain against truck-mounting on the basis of the general asthetics of a design - the mortar would look tiny on the vehicle.

I like this idea. +1
I think it should have a "must-be-static" rule, as the Russian tank-hunter do.
But if the carrier is not standing perfectly horizontally, there may be some issues with the shooting angle calculation.

Well it appears the current model in-game is a 81mm mortar (both INS and BluFor share the same model at present), and I doubt a Toyota would be functional after a few rounds. If you were to throw a 60mm on there it would make more sense, but I doubt you will be able to google some pics of this. Another issue I have is that you can simply hop out, plop the mortar down beside your truck, and save a **** load of maintenance on your poor Toyota.
If the devs were to introduce an armored mortar vehicle that would kick a whole lot of ***!
