Specialist kits more rare

Since 0.95 version we can't take most of enemy kits, which is awesome change (I would disallow using LATs, AP, etc. as well ;-) ). Most people love the change but they are complaining that now taking specialist kits (HAT, Combat Engineer, Sniper, AA) and behaving stupid and recklessly with them is now not a big deal. So we see people rushing with Combat Engineer or HAT on Insurgency or less thinking when equipping them in other modes.

In this version and versions before 0.95 specialists kit needed 5 minutes to lay down on ground not picked up, and then another 5 minutes to get back to the available kit pool for team to be freely requested.
What was different is the fact that obviously people haven't let them lay on ground when they could take it and use them. Enemy by using these kits made them not avaialble for team who lost their specialist kit. So losing kit was serious hinder toward your team, not only enemy could use it but you couldn't. Now losing kit is not so meaningful which is shame and produces not realistic and thoughtless behavior when it comes to such valuable kits as HAT.

I remember the joy in previous version when someone on chat typed "enemy hat, sniper, etc. down", now it means nothing as kits is in use all the time, because 10 min is nothing in PR, especially when you can have 2 specialist kits in one team.

Suggestion:
My solution would be adding more time for kit to get back to the available kit pool. At least 5 minutes more than it is now for specialist kits (that gives 5min on ground + 10min of cooldown after kit disappears). But I would gladly see adding 10 minutes, so they would be back in team pool after 20 min.

I'm not sure about infantry kits (some of them are still available to use for enemy, like LAT).

To lower confussion:
limited specialist kits are: HAT, Sniper, CE and AA. And I'm talking only about them in this suggestion.

that's already in the mod, unless it was removed?

I second that. Loosing those limited kits must result in some kind of pressure from the team so that people take more care of these kits.
By making the consequenses less fatal you decrease the amount of care people put in these kits.

With Kains suggestion loosing a kit is again tougher for a team so I support this in order to make people care more about the limitited kits again.

The question is if the pre-0.95 situation wasnt wast more unrealistic then todays. Back then we were all terrified when we saw a guy with HAT or C4 in the field. However, aint these assets used IRL in isurgency conditions?
IRL, giving insurgents an empty NLAW launcher wont kill your tank.
In 0.92 it did. Now it does not. So, im ok with that.

As far as I know currently in Project Reality specialist kits need 5 min laying on ground + 5 min cooldown after they disappear from game world. So after 10 min player can request kit again. Am I mistaken?

My suggestion is to increase this cooldown by at least 5 min, that would give the 10min of cooldown after kit disappears, so it sums up to 15 min of kit being not available for the team (unless picked in first 5min). Team is more punished for wasting their HAT (like sniping alone on top of the hill on Muttrah for example or something like that :P ).

Serbiak - yeah, that's my point

Lucky.Boy - I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. I'm ok as well with enemy that can't use your HAT kit, but that's not the point of this topic. :) I want these assets used, I just think that we should reduce these mentality when someone spawns with HAT just for farming insurgents and when killed he barely loses anything, except no kit for brief moment.

And this suggestion IMO supports goal of PR to make players care about their assets more (like with vehicles). Before 0.95 you had no HAT for like 30min or more if enemy took it, because he often used it and preserved if he was wise.

EDIT:

Commando Jenkins - I don't think so, this is the same thing with respawn of vehicles in Project Reality. They are looong (up to 20min), so you actually can modify environment to affect player behavior (we have this in PR on each step, like suppression effect, etc) and it works. And I'm not telling them to not TAKE kit just to be more CAREFUL like it was before and it will be more rewarding for team that manages to take HAT down. We had it before and it worked well, now you see too many people grabbing specialist kit and not caring about anything. :)

I absolutely love this idea. Right now the kits are worthless because enemy can't take them and you get them back very quickly. Also, it doesn't pay off to chase enemy sniper or HAT because he's back with his kit very quickly.

But in case ability to pick up enemy kits is not returning, I suggest very long cooldown time. 30 minutes wouldn't be bad.

I agree with this idea, we need to do something to stop 2 man squads from trying to rambo caches with sniper and hat kits. I hate how the new kit rules encourage people to grab uber kits and run out alone with no fear of losing them, I see solo HAT guys more often then ever before.

I agree:

Pre 0.95, you lost a kit 75% of the time the enemy would grab it and use or hide it (yes we all did that didn't we?).

Now as Kain points out you run back to it or wait ten minutes there you go.

Five minutes on the ground and ten to reappear in the pool.

However for example think about that as Militia on Fools with a fairly ineffective RPG tandem, known AT positions and the Spandrels are quite easy to take out unless the operators are very good.

Make sniper kits take an hour to become re-available :lol:

I support the idea of having kit respawn time extended. Perhaps just a little at first (extra 5 minutes) guage the impact it has, and adjust as necessary.

First you make it so the factions cant use each others kit, now you want to increase kit respawn time to that of heavy assets...

Please, for the good of PR. Jump off the nearest cliff.
Have fun waiting 20minutes for your damn medic kits

Aren't you talking about specialist rifleman kit though? If yes, then this topic is not about that. :)

I enjoy the shorter re-spawn time for kits. This is a game, and inevitably there will be people who carelessly lose important kits. For gameplay sake that should not give the rest of the players on that team a handicap for 20+ minutes. I am a player that does not usually go grabbing special kits, but it is nice to be able to get one once in a while. :)

Well it will be just more like 0.9 and before. Even smaller waiting time. You can as well say it's game so cobra should have 5min of respawn as well. There should be feeling of importance to kits like hat or sniper. :)
