BF2 and BF2PR locks up pc after maps loads

I don't remember the fix, I found it once and can never find it again. When I load BF2, join a server and the map loads, I can play it for like 30 seconds to a minute and whaam! My entire PC locks up completely.
I have all the latest windows updates. Latest ATI drivers. PB is updated. Happens with PR and BF2. PR is the latest version.
My specs are:
AMD Phenom II X4 965 at 3.4Ghz
6GB of dual channel ram at 1600Hz
Crossfire X enabled on 2 ATI 5770's
ATI Drivers version 10.11(Even used 10.9 and 10.10, same thing happens)
Nothing is overclocked, all set to auto
2 320 GB HDD set to Raid 0
Windows 7
AMD Fusion set to Gaming mode
Processor Temp never goes above 52 or 53 degrees Celcius, mostly stays well below 50
I have NO problems with BC2, BOD Black Ops and Call of Duty 4 and Grand Theft Auto IV.
GTA4 is maxed out on the settings.
And I know BF2 works on High Settings, But because I deleted the game and reinstalled it, I have this problem back now. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

What do you mean by "locks up"? A CTD or a complete freez where you have to press the reboot button?
Did you install patches 1.41 and 1.5 (in that order)?
Also try the usual:
run in windowed mode for error message
disable UAC
disable security suites

The PC locks up, frozen, cant ALT TAB, nothing, have to hit the reset button.
UAC is off
No security running
1.41 and 1.5 is installed
and this is only after the map is loaded...

more stuff to try:
Run in windowed mode to get an error message.
Disable ATI Tray tools.
Disable Catalyst AI.

I dont run ATI Tray Tools and I disabled the ATI Catalyst A.I. and it still locks up after loading a map. I know it works because I've played PR on this PC just a few days ago, but when I remove my ATI drivers and some Nvidia drivers and then reinstalled the ATI drivers(After running driver sweep) the problem returns. When running in Windowed mode, BF2 doesn't lock up the pc, but I will try it with PR. There is nothing in the event viewer stating any errors and nothing in the BF2 DMP folder either. Strange!

Sounds like a driver issue, but you could try running
battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cache files.
Still no joy?
Try trashing your BF2 cache files.
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache
Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.
Still CTD?
OK
Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder. Once you have a backup delete the original from your documents folder.
Try starting PR from your PR shortcut
a new default folder is created
link to your online account.
If all goes well (CTD gone) all you have to do to get your custom settings back is copy your 'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001
Good luck

I'll try that, but it's not a CTD, it's a complete freeze/lock up of the entire computer. Happening with BF2 and PR. Doesn't happen on any other game. It did this a while back and I fixed it, but I don't remember what fixed it. It only happens after you load a map, any map, and play for 30 seconds to a minute or so. Then FREEZE...the only way out is a reset. No error messages, no log files, no events. Nothing. Out of all the posts I remember reading, only one had a fix and I can't find it and it was simple too. I kick my self in the butt for not bookmarking or writing down what it was. I guess a full reinstall of the O/S will have to be next, but I would hate to have to go that far.

RESOLVED! I reinstalled windows and did NOT install the Creative X-Fi drivers for the USB sound card and so far COD4 and BF2 and PR do not crash. Neither does BC2! So I think it's sound card driver. I'll create a restore point and install the driver to see if I start having issues again!

Does System Restore help? If so, maybe it is a windows update causing the trouble.
What other applications are running?
Note that this could also be a hardware issue.

I fixed it! Found the problem and I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT THE FIX DAMMIT!!!!
The fix: Disable Crossfire
I can't believe it...Crossfire is NOT compatible with BF2??? THAT IS NUTS! Does anyone have a solution on how I can use Crossfire in BF2 without it freezing the pc up? I mean, I thought it was audio, video, Directx, windows updates, drivers drivers drivers! I tried everything! Even new Windows install with NOTHING but the basic stuff and it still Froze the pc! But when I simply disabled Crossfire...BAM! BF2 plays FLAWLESSLY! And I'm using the 10.12 drivers, I even tried older ones too. Wow...Shocker. Oh well, I guess BF2 doesn't need Crossfire to run anyway. However, a funny thing is, that I had Crossfire ENABLED when I first installed BF2 before patching to 1.5. BF2 ran FINE in Crossfire at 1.0 state. But when I put on 1.41 and then 1.5, the Freezing began.
So any ideas would be apprieciated in getting BF2 to work with Crossfire.
And does Disabling A.I. disable Crossfire too?
Thanks!
