Bot Names

Was wondering if it is allowed to hack the bot names and show them as human players. I have ran on to a PR coop op server that shows my gaming name with clan tags twice in that server and was wondering why this is allowed. Any suggestions as I would like to keep my clan tag to just human players.

Thanks.

I don't think I quite understand.

Are you saying your clan tags are called, "[R-BOT]"?

No. He's saying that on the server he played on had a bot named after him.

Dunno, Strange. I'll see if I can get an answer for you by the appropriate people.

That would be strange, seeing how the bots are all named after Project Reality team members.

Can server admins change the names of the bots? If I had to guess, I would say "No."

I'm sure they can, after all, aren't all the botnames strored in a "botnames" file?

as he should. how would you feel if somebody you didnt know was walking around with OD-S tags?

but yeah, people do it all the time. play AIX servers long enough or donate, and they'll name a bot after you.

Of course I am insulted. Mainly because it is dishonest to make a bot server look as though its populated by real people playing instead of bots. Those who pay for server hosting work hard to populate servers. Its those who are dishonest that run hacks that ruin the fun for everyone else. A bot is a bot and it should make a difference what the name is. I am sure if Black Sands wanted the option of changing the name it would be a publicized option. I see naming a bot after any real life player and putting on clan tags is a form of stealing my idenity and shouldn't be allowed. The question is how does Reality Mod see this and is it a violation of the server license?

Thanks.

Bot servers are all under CO-OP anyway, and all of the player counts show 0/64 players because bots aren't players. Non-Bot servers are all under "DEPLOYMENT".

Problem solved?

Not really the issue is because the bot is named as a real player. Its stealing player id. They also are showing my name but it doesn't show as a bot on Gametracker.

What exactly is the problem here tweezer?

By default the bots are named [R-BOT]xxxx. Is that a problem?

In most cases editing the PR files is not allowed under the server license. The files you may edit are contained in mods/pr/settings, and some under mods/pr/python/game. The specific issue of the bot names files has not arisen previously, so I'll get back to you on that.

Bots still take up player slots even if it says "0/64".
Additionally, there one big difference between bots and humans and that is bots always have a ping of 0, you can only have a ping of 0 in BF2 as human if you're the server host playing on your server.

Ok, here we are:

Bots may be renamed, but all bots must be consistently tagged so that it's obvious (to those who haven't twigged at the l337 skills and 0 ping) that it is a bot.

Those tags must include 'BOT'. We suggest something like:

epoch*BOT
[BOT]epoch

That kinda thing.

The bot names are actually stored in the mods/pr/ai/botnames.ai file.

Ah ok. We unfortunately this server has not recognized these "bot" as bots. Which needs to be change. It would also seem that what ever they are doing to the bots is also increasing the gametracker ranking as they have shot up over the last two weeks (1572 to 250th).

If you want to check it out the server ip is 8.6.77.217, belongs to Army of Destruction or AoD.

I have temporarily renamed all the bots back to their original PR server installed names [R-BOT]xxxxxxxxxx. After checking with GameTracker, ALL of the bots were recognized as bots, only a some was shortly tracked. That is GT's fault since they are supposed to recognize a bot from a human. Only certain bots with AoD tags were somehow tracked on GT, which baffles me. It seems the ones that were tracked were names that never played BF2. I've seen bots with a tag of BOT tracked, so GT's system is not perfect, but close enough. Up until November 19th, a small portion of the bots were tracked, maybe a couple since then, but all in all, they have not influenced much or hardly at all of the ranking of the server with GT. The ranking has been solely influenced by players keeping the server full most of the time.

Sometime this weekend, since it is allowed, I'll possibly rename them again, but keep the tags to reflect that they are a BOT or R-BOT.

As mentioned in a previous post, it is common to see bots renamed in AIX and I have also seen them renamed in PR also. I apologize to PR for any troubles I may caused. Thank you Tweezer for bringing this up, contact me anytime if you have any other concerns about our PR server, maybe we can do a scrim or two?

Thanks again!

Thanks mkansas73. No trouble at all - it's something that hasn't come up before, so we made a rule for it, and your swift action is appreciated.

Tweezer - expect a PM from me soon regarding your motives behind bringing this to our attention. Image
