DoD marked on map

It would be nice to have the dome of death marked on the map. I know on certain servers building mortars or attacking within the DoD is against the rules. It would be nice to know where the DoD actually is instead of questioning it.

edit: example

A simple red ring around it or tracing the border would be enough.

How about instead of waiting for them to leave the dome of death and for all intensive purposes, base raping, you actually try to help your team? Mortar objectives, enemy fobs..etc. Stop trying to make the game even more gamey.


Bottom Line: This addition would encourage AAV's, tanks, etc in hugging the DoD border and base raping.

Its possible, the mapper just needs to make an overlay on the minimap with photoshop, the same way the new grid system is used.

It would be usefeul on some maps
eg. the dome of death around the carrier on Jabal.
I have been killed trying to move around in the water as mec on that map when I didnt know the dome of death reached out that far.

That would only work if ALL layers have the same DOD. There's only one minimap per map.

no it wouldn't, that would be suicide. being near the enemy's dome of death means being close to their powerful assets.

This would definitely help especialy on Kokan where the westbound road from the insurgent main runs right through the southern DOD. it also sucks on some maps where you can be driving through a crop field on a flank then all of a sudden your in a DOD

Uhm, in vBF2 you had out of combat zone markers (although for both teams) marked, and they were not the same. Sure that's not possible?
Otherwise, just draw all domes of death - only the outline, in different colors for each layer. (Red: Standard, Orange: Alternative, Yellow: Infantry or sth). Just a tiny line on the map, it wouldn't look too clustered I hope. Would not be needed for the DoD of the Essex, either, because noone will build a mortar in the water.

Good suggestion. If it is possible it should be ingame. Especially because of mortars.

EDIT:

If it's not possible ingame maybe just put it in manual (since guide is offline) or hand to the community each map with marked DoD (like with 0.9 versions highlight with all minimaps)?

Combat Zone is diffrent from the DoD, even thou the DoD uses the combat zone, but it uses the Combat Zone in such a way that it can't be drawn on the map.

Aye, I see. Well, I'll go with Kain then, maybe just making it visible in the manual or sth - or actually, the community could do that.

sad..! it would have been a great add-on, especially regarding maps like Jabal and Muttrah, to be able to know more about the carrier shield.

admins would have less work punishing people abusing the protection shields, players would have more information about their environment and could prevent getting punished for violation of server rules.

furthermore, maps with pretty unidentifiable map boundaries like Kokan could get more clearly arranged.

It was visible once, i remember on older versions the combat zone.......

Now in maps like Kokan you can't know it.

I cant imagine shading the map a slightly different color would be a lot of clutter.

I think you are looking at this the entirely wrong way, this is to prevent people from building in their DoD and making their mortars unattackable. It is used as a point of reference, especially for servers that have the rule to not attack into or out of main space. It would also prevent driving off into the DoD on accident by giving you a point of reference of where it is, which would be helpful on such maps as Kokan.

his wouldnt encourage a tank to sit at the border, what's stopping them from doing it now?

Yeah, gotta say that I think this is absolutlt necessary for some maps. Fallujah for example, where the insurgent out of bounds timer is like 2 seconds.

or you get a message: "you are going into enemy territorium, move back" 20 m before you actually are in the DOD.

You can paint it on the map, but every gamemode has to have it, or it'll just be odd.

Another thing one could do, is put objectspawners on the map, where the DoD's are, where only the minimap icon shows up (the objectspawner itself shows nothing). And the minimap icon could be a red dot for example. Would look something like this:

Not as pretty as painting it on the minimap, but at least the DoD's only show up when they're there. But that's about as far as you can take it I guess.

I assume those are the defense domes Dune? If so, couldn?t the dome simply have a map icon, like a big red 60% transparent circle texture or something?

this is ok with maps like muttrah, but for most other maps, the dod circles the entire map with a cut out point for mainbases...

if this was implimented on basrah for example, youd have red dots spamming your minimap :o
