Im New (Tips and Tricks and FAQS From Experienced Players)

So I used to play battlefield 2 a lot, a few years ago i played over 30 days of it straight.

I was still a teenager so i was really interested in taking it seriously. Now im a bit older i have come back to BF2 and saw this amazing modification, as my PC cannot run Arma 2 very well at all.. and i love the BF2 Engine im downloading this modification onto my PC. Im considering joining the army in 2 years time, (Completely Off Topic)

So im a complete N00b at this modification and i need you guys to give me some tips when i first join the game. I have no idea what to do. However one thing for sure i want to have fun and have a nice realistic experience. (I understand this cant be 100% realistic but i just want to have a semi realistic experience, and get away from Call of Duty (I Hate that game)

So.. i have no idea what this community is like .. i understand there will be annoying people and trolls on the forum as-well as nice people who can help me. So please dont flame me. :-?

So here is my massive question spree... answer as many or as little as you like.
Thanks in advance

Is there any servers you recommend i join?

How does the ranking system work?

Can anyone get in a jet for example and fly it around, because thats stupid if they can.

Is there anything i should be aware of?

How does Squads work?

Do i have to take orders from higher ranks?

Is there some thing i should not do?

How does training servers work?

Do i have to train before i join a server?

Do i start with a certain weapon?

What happens when you die? Do you respawn with a new life? NLR?

What about roleplay?

Do i have to use my Microphone?

Thank You guys <3

Hey Yett.

You should start by reading nice manual by [R-DEV]Spearhead - http://realitymodfiles.com/spearhead/ma ... _EN_r1.pdf

Surprisingly this community is the most mature one I ever experienced, so they won't flame you for asking and will be helpful most of time. :) So before asking question just read manual it will save our and yours time, then you can ask things you missed or haven't understood. :)

All servers are fine, but just know what you should do in specific situations.

There is no ranking system.

No, jets require a pilot kit, and in many servers, you must either join an existing jet squad or make one if there is none.

You should be aware of how to find your way around on maps, and be able to use terrain to your advantage.

Squads of 2 or more can have a medic, officer, and rifleman kits. Squads of 4 or more have access to all kits. All squads can request pilot and crewman kits regardless of squad size.

You should probably follow the orders of your squad leader and commander, use your discretion once you know how to play the game.

You shouldn't drive or gun things like APCs and tanks until you have learned how to communicate and move/shoot it stay alive and also be effective.

Training servers is basically normal PR, with 1 man tank and APC to train on, and more jets, and bots.

You should probably train a bit and learn the simple stuff before joining a server.

You should start with normal weapons like rifles, snipers, pistols, etc, before moving up to the big stuff.

When you die, you can either be revived by a medic (depends), or respawn on the spawnpoints in your spawn menu.

Roleplay.. depends.

You should really use a mic, immensely helpful.

Welcome to PR, hope you enjoy it! Now, most of your questions will be answered in the manual. The first thing you should do before you go play is read the manual. PR is pretty difficult to get in to, and you'll probably be confused by plenty of things early on, but you have to read the manual so that you're familiar with the basics.

As for some specifics:
Yett71 wrote:Is there any servers you recommend i join?
TG (TacticalGamer), PRTA, NWA, UK Warfare. Most people have their own favorites but it seems that these days TG and PRTA are the two most loved by the community.
How does the ranking system work?
There isn't a ranking system per se, like in vanilla BF2. There's simply the role of one commander per team and one squad leader per squad.
Can anyone get in a jet for example and fly it around, because thats stupid if they can.
Many vehicles are restricted to kits. Jets and helicopters can only be used by players with a pilot kit, similarly, armored assets can only be used by players with a crewman kit.
Is there anything i should be aware of?
As said, read the manual - it will mention most things that you definitely need to be aware of.
How does Squads work?
The BF2 squad system is used that allows for up to 6 people per squad. More on this in the manual.
Do i have to take orders from higher ranks?
You are expected to follow your squad leader's orders. Indeed, doing so is the key thing to being a respected player. You'll find that the community will generally be patient with new players who make mistakes and don't understand aspects of the game, as long as they follow orders.
Is there some thing i should not do?
The two most important things - don't go lone wolfing, stick with your squad. And don't use assets you're unfamiliar with.
How does training servers work?
There are no training servers anymore, there's co-op. You can join a server mostly or entirely populated with bots. It's similar to normal PR gameplay but some rules are different or else the bots wouldn't work.
Do i have to train before i join a server?
Not really. You can jump right into the game and play as an infantry grunt after reading the manual. But you'd be well advised to practice offline or in coop servers before you try rolling in tanks or, most importantly, flying.
Do i start with a certain weapon?

What happens when you die? Do you respawn with a new life? NLR?
The manual will explain those.
What about roleplay?
Not sure what you mean exactly. Most squads do not really roleplay and pretend to be military, but the situations that arise in game are much more similar to real situations than in BF2.
Do i have to use my Microphone?
It is highly advised, do not be shy. Communication is a key part of the game, a microphone will make you more useful to your squad and easier to play with.

Same as above: TG, PRTA, NwA, UKWF, CIA are all fun.

How does the ranking system work?

There is no ranking system unless you are in a clan.

Can anyone get in a jet for example and fly it around, because thats stupid if they can.

Well, yes. But most servers:
1st: require a named squad after said asset;
2nd: if the asset is wasted (ie. Not used properly, crashed on the runway during takeoff or landing due to no apparent reason...), you normally get kicked from the server.

Is there anything i should be aware of?

Well, yes... I suppose you should read below...

How does Squads work?

Basically separated into Infantry, Armors/APCs and Air Assets (jets/trans choppers/attack choppers). You join one and follow orders from the Squad Leader.

Do i have to take orders from higher ranks?

Yes. If you are Squad Member, you follow your Squad Leader. If you are Squad Leader, you follow orders from the CO. As a SL you can also talk about plans with other SLs through mumble and text if there is no CO around (or even if there is).

Is there some thing i should not do?

Be an asshat - Join a squad and request de sniper0z kit without asking the Squad Leader first, for example, is not the way to go.

How does training servers work?

Now it is co-op: online or offline, you shoot bots (and in some cases, humans). Or create a "Local" server to practice on the maps you would play online with the same assets and map boundaries.

Do i have to train before i join a server?

Not necessarily (it's good to figure out deviation first). If you want to fly in Multiplayer, yeah you should practice. Just let your SL and Squad Members know you are new and they will help ;)

Do i start with a certain weapon?

Depends on the faction/kit you have. (This isn't COD4 where you unlock weapons XD)

What happens when you die? Do you respawn with a new life? NLR?

Yes. I dunno what's NLR. You may respawn at a FOB or Rally Point (or Main base). Ask your SL what to do before respawning.

What about roleplay?

Depends on the squad... No need to scream over mic for example, but some enthusiasm is always good 8)

Motivating and fun, you know ;)

Do i have to use my Microphone?

It's good.

+I wrote this some very long time ago, I dunno, perhaps you might aquire something from it...

Cheers, see you in the battlefield 8)

I'll probably repeat some of what the others said, but I'll answer your questions again anyway :)

Is there any servers you recommend i join?

All public servers require to meet strict criteria to get a server license - that ensures that every server has the same game rules, respawn times etc. It also helps with making sure that the gameplay is good on all public servers. Some are better than others obviously - Tactical Gamer being the most loved one by many people, although that one's in the states. PRTA recently also getting a very good reputation. NwA and UK Warfare are also good choices for UK-based servers.

How does the ranking system work?
Not :) All there is is a commander (not always sadly), and squad leaders - but you require no rank or anything to take these roles.

Can anyone get in a jet for example and fly it around, because thats stupid if they can.
As the others have stated, no. Firstly a pilot kit is required (which includes no proper weaponry, so if you are a pilot, you won't be able to change your mind and jump out to engage the enemy, and more importantly, most servers clearly state that noone who did not practice at first is allowed to use any aircraft. This is also important to you: Stay away from heavy vehicles and anything that flies until you had some experience as infantry man (to see how these vehicles operate from a different perspective) and trained using the vehicles on an empty LAN or a co-op server.

Is there anything i should be aware of?
A lot of things - most of which are in the manual.
When you join a game, look for infantry-squads, named "Teamwork", "VOIP" etc, "INF TW", "INF VOIP" etc. Join them, tell the squad leader you are new, and unless you are unlucky with the squadleader, he'll help you out and answer your questions. Do not spawn with any specialised kits without asking (default is rifleman, medic is also normally no problem).

How does Squads work?
It's important to know that without being in a squad, nothing works. As for the squads themselves, you simply join one that you think will fill the role on the battlefield that you like - at first this should be infantry, just because it's not that much of a responsibility and you won't get yelled at for wasting a helicopter due to inexperienced flying. But don't worry, as soon as you know a couple of people and got used to the game, you can move on to the heavier assets. But due to their high respawn times and the tickets attached to them (losing one instantly makes your team lose several tickets - and if they reach zero, the match is lost, obviously), you should at first probably not man aircraft or tanks.
Also, please do not use smaller vehicles as one-way taxis. Get transported in a friendly APC (that's what they're there for; a good squad leader in your squad will make sure you get transproted by an APC or helicopter), or take a truck/jeep - but in that case, bring it back to safety after doing your mission. Don't leave it in the middle of the battefield. Take it with you as if it was another squad member.

Do i have to take orders from higher ranks?

No - there is no ranks, after all. You should listen to your squad leader though.

Is there some thing i should not do?

Too many to name them all ;)

How does training servers work?

Currently, the training mode does not exist in PR. There are co-op servers that you can use to train a bit, and you can create an empty LAN server to get used to assets. Some clans also have passworded training servers up, but I don't know much about those.

Do i have to train before i join a server?

Read the manual and try out the different weapons and pieces of equipment in an empty LAN server if you want to be sure not to make a mistake. But generally, you don't need to train, unless you intend to fly etc.

Do i start with a certain weapon?

Depends on your kit, obviously. Mostly, you'll have the same primary weapon for almost every kit in an army (as in, the US Army will almost always give you an M4, unless you are, for example, a machine gunner).

What happens when you die? Do you respawn with a new life? NLR?

You respawn at the main base, a friendly forward outpost (those can be built by your team - read the manual for detailed information) or your squads rally point (your squad leader can place those every now and then for a short time). Vehicles respawn in the main base, usually. Respawn times are high though.
Also, when you are shot, you normally are not instantly dead, but you are wounded. For up to five minutes (you can skip that, see manual), a medic can revive you on the spot - that takes a while though and should not be done under fire.

What about roleplay?
Most people do not roleplay. The feeling is great even without, though ;)

Do i have to use my Microphone?

Short answer - yes. Long answer - no, but it helps a lot. Seeing how you're british, your english probably is good and you should not have issues communicating, so I'd suggest using it.
i understand there will be annoying people and trolls on the forum as-well as nice people who can help me. So please dont flame me.
I hope we could disappoint you there :)
Welcome to the forums, and enjoy the game!

Dont try flying untill you practiced a couple of rounds on a local server.
Also leave everything that has tires or tracks to ppl how know how to drive and shoot untill you played infantry for a while.

Is there any servers you recommend i join?

Everyone have their fafourites, I say NwA.

How does the ranking system work?

There is really no ranking system like in bf2.

Can anyone get in a jet for example and fly it around, because thats stupid if they can.

You need pilot kit for jets/helicopters and need to be in Jet/heli squad in most servers. If you go fly jet whitout practicing and doing your own thing you will be propably kicked since Killed jet takes 20mins to spawn and cost 10 tickets.

Is there anything i should be aware of?

Read manual

How does Squads work?

6 man squads like in bf2, you can`t get some kits if you dont have certain amount of players in squad. Read manual

Do i have to take orders from higher ranks?

Just listen to squd leader and commander.

Is there some thing I should not do?

Do not join squad just for kits and then leave(ok, I do it sometimes...).
Don`t use assets you are not familiar whit.
DO NOT LEARN TO FLY ON PUBLIC SERVERS!!!!!!!

How does training servers work?[
They are Co-op servers whit bots, check manual

Do i have to train before i join a server?

Read some manual for new players and get feel of weapons from co-op/local server.

Do i start with a certain weapon?

No, and there is no weapon upgrade system based on ranks. Read more about "kits" on manual.

What happens when you die? Do you respawn with a new life? NLR?

When you die, you will respawn at FOB/Main/temporaly spawn location/rally point. Respawn time varies whit temporaly spawn penalties etc, more on manual.
No NLR, you can tell about tank that killed you after you respawn.

SIZE="4"]What about roleplay?[[/SIZE]

Not really, sometimes peoples may have little roleplay whit downed pilot, nothing more really.

Do I have to use my microfone?

Highly recomended

And last protip: Read manual
EDIT: This post looks so spammy...

I think a lots of thinks you have to found yourself :-)
But basicly. And sombody tell it before. Dont fly until you learn it at train servers. Dont be apc driver or gunner until you learn it to.
First you have to learn is stay alive at least on firefight :-)
Dont give up and wait for medic
There is big chance he will revive you
Stay together with your squad leader
Dont stay in middle of road everytime find good fire with good firespot
Dont underastimate surrpress fire. This is most importat what you have to learn. Dont wait for enemy head. Keep Fire to keep his head down and let your commrade move closer
Safe your sprint to crossing roads or find cover. In other case just walk
When you fight on big range use single fire
When you are fighting in house use atomatic or burst fire.
Learn how to fire without aiming ! This will safe your live when you will fight for house from room to room.
Learn throwing granades to windows
Learn how you can get inside building. There arent just door and stairs But roof, balcony.
Dont stay close your sq member when he firing on corner. If he will blow up by granade you will blow with him. Kep distance and find good cover to cover his retreting.
Dont watch same direction us other member. Find cover and watch another part of perimeter.
When you see enemy say angle and distance.
If you hear. Contact 345 100m. dont run to take watch him ! stay in cover, move in cover and try flank but not far away from your squad. Just suspect enemy movments.

Every part of Pr has lots of trick. Fling driving, or infantry.

See on at battlefield and good luck

Is there any servers you recommend i join?

Tactical Gamer is the best, but you might want to work your way up to it. TeamPlayerGaming is good. if theres only 5 or 6 in the server, go ahead and join anyway. the regulars(myself included) are in there priming, and we woud be more then happy to help you

How does the ranking system work?
there is no ranking system. its one of the things that make this mod great. you dont play for rank or global points, you play for the fun of the game.

Can anyone get in a jet for example and fly it around, because thats stupid if they can.
vehicles are side locked. meaning if you come across an enemy vehicle in the middle of nowhere, you cant get in it.

Is there anything i should be aware of?
too many to go into, your best bet is the manual.

How does Squads work?
pretty much the same as in vBF2, although your expected to stay together.

Do i have to take orders from higher ranks?
if by higher ranks, you mean your squad leader, then yes. theres usually no commander.

Is there some thing i should not do?
so many things. run off alone, run off with vehicles, and dont take the sniper kit are probably the top 3. you should ask an experenced player (in game) for more.

How does training servers work?
no training servers, but there is Coop. there you can get the basics down. moving, shooting, working with other squads/vehicles ect.

Do i have to train before i join a server?
no, but its usually a good idea, as stated above

Do i start with a certain weapon?
the rifleman kit is well rounded, so you should start there.

What happens when you die? Do you respawn with a new life? NLR?
you have tickets like in conquest. your team loses 1 when you are downed and wounded(waiting for a medic) and a second when your dead completely. we often refer to the latter as "dead dead"

What about roleplay?
it happens, but not all the time, so be careful.

Do i have to use my Microphone?
not required but a very good idea. its alot easier to communicate with one.

How does the ranking system work?

There are no ranks in PR, This encourages team work and gives you less rank hunting!

Can anyone get in a jet for example and fly it around, because thats stupid if they can.
Of course not, In this game there is a very different kit system than that of BF2, You have to request a kit!
There is a pilot kit which is used to man aerial vehicles, Also, If the Jet crashed, You would have to wait 20 minutes for a new one (The time sounds a lot but maps with Jets last for at least 2 hours...).
A lot of server force an "Asset Rule" where you have to make a squad and name it with the name of the asset and the first one who makes the squad will have the advantage of taking that asset, If you fail to follow the rule you may be kicked or even banned!

Is there anything i should be aware of?
That this game is in no way similar to Battlefield, Kit system, Vehicles, Maps, Weapons and the way they handle and that Teamwork is a must in this game!

How does Squads work?
Squads are pretty much the same as Battlefield, Except for the Kit requesting system, Where you can't request a kit unless you are in a squad, Also if you want to enter a special vehicle like a Chopper, Tank, APC or Jet etc... you must be in a squad.
Some special kits are limited to only 1 member in each squad examples of such kits are: The Marksman, Grenadier and medic kit.
Some kits are limited to the whole team like the Sniper kit where only 2 persons in the same team can have a Sniper kit (Asset rule can also apply to weapons on some server), These special kits have a respawn time too!

Do i have to take orders from higher ranks?
as I said, There are no ranks here... So no, But you have to take orders from your squad leader and your commander can give orders to your SL (Squad leader).
Is there some thing i should not do?
Do not fly, Man a Tank or APC if you have no idea how do they work (For that go to COOP training server).
How does training servers work?
In previous version of PR there were training servers with unlimited kits, fast respawn time, unlimited vehicles with no ticket loss and fast re spawnable assets, But now they introduced a COOP training system, Where there are COOP servers that kinda have the same aspects of old training servers to give you a chance to test all the vehicles and weapons.

Do i have to train before i join a server?
You Don't have to, But it is highly recommended to do so.
However, Some servers will kick unexperienced players, In this case you have to train first.

Do i start with a certain weapon?
No.
What happens when you die? Do you respawn with a new life? NLR?
You would be 'wounded' and you have 3 minutes if I am not wrong to wait for a medic to revive me, However, if there is no medic around you can have a 'give up' option in the bottom of the spawn screen' after you click give up you respawn back, However, in PR the minimum spawn time is 30 seconds and every time you die this time will get longer and if you got some kills it will get shorter (It will never go below 30, No matter how many kills you have, But if you died a lot and the spawn time became very long, You can make 30 by killing some people).
Do i have to use my Microphone?
Most servers kick those who don't have Microphones to encourage teamwork, But even in those servers that do not kick, It is extremely recommended to use it!

I would like to add that everything I mentioned above with everything you need to know about this awesome modification is available here: https://www.realitymod.com/manual/pr_manual.pdf
PS: The manual might take sometime to load.

Also, I want to tell you that this is the most Mature, Amazing and Helpful community you will ever set eyes on!

Is there any servers you recommend i join?

How does the ranking system work?

Can anyone get in a jet for example and fly it around, because thats stupid if they can.

Is there anything i should be aware of?

How does Squads work? Squad leaders lead the squad and all squad members should follow him like a shadow, unless told otherwise from your squad leader.

Do i have to take orders from higher ranks? Ranks? there are no ranks. So no.

Is there some thing i should not do? Do not shoot your own team members, spam the chat or intentionally be an asshat.

How does training servers work? there are none. But you can either go to a CO-Op or a empty server to figure things out.

Do i have to train before i join a server? No, but it wouldn't hurt.

Do i start with a certain weapon? Basic rifleman is always a good start.

What happens when you die? Do you respawn with a new life? NLR? There are 2 things that can happen. If you go down, you can be revived by a near by medic, hopefully the one in your squad. If there are no medics, give up and ask your squad leader where you should spawn next.

What about roleplay? I'm not even gonna begin with the sexual connotations that this sounds like. Plus I'm confused by the question

Do i have to use my Microphone? You don't have to, but it is extremely recommended. It's not only going to be easier for you but it makes the squad flow so much better.

Follow your squad leader, do what he asks. If you don't like him than find a new squad.
As for vehicles. join a co-op server or empty server and figure out how these work. Once you're comfy with the controls than try it out in game.

IMO, the best, most teamwork oriented servers are going to be =]H[= (HARDCORE), TG (Tactical Gamer) and UKWF. But you can have a decent time in other servers, especially while learning the game.
