by 2Slick4U
Over the last few months, the Reality Studios team has been working vigorously on the continued development of both the Project Reality: Battlefield 2 and Project Reality: ArmA2 modifications. We have made considerable progress on both projects, including the creation of multiple new vehicles and weapons which we believe will make your current realistic combat experiences even better!

ModDB.com "Mod of the Year 2010" - Phase 2 Voting
It's that time of year again, when players from every game genre can vote for their favorite game modifications in ModDB.com's annual "Mod of The Year" (aka MOTY) competition. As many of you are aware, Project Reality: Battlefield 2 won Mod of the Year back in 2008, and now in 2010, we are hoping to give the other mods a run for their money, especially with Project Reality: ArmA2!

Both PR:BF2 and PR:ArmA2 has made it into the Top 100 Mods and Phase 2 of the voting has started. This is where YOUR vote really matters! We ask that you vote for your favorite mod(s) from across the board. If you think Project Reality: Battlefield 2 and/or Project Reality: ArmA2 deserves your vote for the "Mod of The Year" and/or "Upcoming Mod of The Year" awards, we would very much appreciate your participation. Registered members votes are worth more points than guest votes, so be sure you login to an existing ModDB.com account before you vote! If you do not have an account, register one - it is free, quick and easy. Every single vote counts!

Winning the MOTY award is definitely something the entire Reality Studios team would like to accomplish, as it gives the whole team a tremendous sense of accomplishment and a huge boost to our motivation level in continuing our various projects, not to mention the huge publicity Project Reality would receive. Project Reality: Battlefield 2 Progress
Since the successful release of Project Reality v0.95, we have been developing the next installment of Project Reality: BF2, the v0.96 patch. This patch will focus heavily on the optimization of the entire PR:BF2 modification and will also contain multiple bug fixes. Of course not all of our work has just been code related; we have also been developing brand new in game assets for you to have at our disposable while playing PR. Here is a preview of just a few of them:

- Militia: BMP-1 Infantry Fighting Vehicle
The BMP-1 is a Soviet amphibious tracked Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV). The BMP-1 was the world's first mass-produced IFV and it was a revolutionary design, combining the properties of an armored personnel carrier (APC) and a light tank. The Soviet military saw any future wars as being conducted with nuclear, chemical and biological weapons, where unprotected infantry would soon be either killed or incapacitated by radiation or chemical and biological agents. A vehicle like the BMP would allow infantry to operate from the relative safety of its armored, radiation shielded interior in contaminated areas and to fight alongside it in uncontaminated areas. It would increase infantry squad mobility, provide fire support to them, and also be able to fight alongside main battle tanks. The design is so good that many nations across the world still use this vehicle even though its well over 40 years old.

- Russian Forces: BMP-2 Infantry Fighting Vehicle
The BMP-2 is a second-generation, amphibious infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) introduced in the 1980s in the Soviet Union, following the success of the BMP-1 of the 1960s. Although the BMP-1 was a revolutionary design, its main armament, the 2A28 Grom and the 9S428 ATGM launcher, quickly became obsolete. Therefore the Soviet Union decided to produce an updated and improved version of the BMP-1. The most significant changes are a new two-man turret armed with the 2A42 30mm auto cannon and the 9P135M ATGM. The commander now sits with the gunner in an enlarged turret and its occupants are protected by slightly improved armor.

- PLA: Zhi-9 Light Transport Helicopter
The People's Liberation Army's (PLA) Zhi-9 (Z-9) is a Chinese, licensed-built version of the Eurocopter AS 365N Dauphin II. The Z-9 is possibly the most produced helicopter in China, with over 200 machines delivered to both military and civilian customers. The Z-9 fulfills the role of light transport and utility helicopter in the PLA. In PR:BF2, the Z-9 will be able to fly a full squad of troops quickly into battle and deploy them in small landing zones where larger transport helicopters would have not been able to.

- PLA: Zhi-9WA Light Attack Helicopter
The PLA Zhi-9WA (Z-9WA, aka WZ-9A) is a light attack helicopter based on the Zhi-9, light transport/utility helicopter featuring a pair of external weapon pylon, a under nose mounted observing and tracking unit housing a low-light camera and an infrared search and track (IRST) camera, allowing it to operating in all weathers, both day and night. In PR:BF2 there will be multiple versions of the Z-9WA, each carrying a different load out of weapons. These different load outs will be used on maps and layers that suit them best, with the option of mixing the different load outs among multiple helicopters.

Project Reality: ArmA2 Progress
The Project Reality: ArmA2 team is still hard at work creating what we believe will be the one stop package for the diehard PvP Community. With the sheer amount of concepts we now have, the release date has slipped somewhat, and we are now working on a release that is four times as large as we initially thought. From player controlled Bridgelayers, destructible environments and a whole new user interface, the PR:ArmA2 modification is really one to look out for in the future. Here are a few things we have recently been working on:

- US Army: Apache AH-64A/D Attack Helicopter
The United States Army Apache AH-64A/D Attack Helicopter was designed during the Cold War to hunt and destroy tanks, but now is used to give CAS to troop on the ground in Afghanistan. The Apache can operate in all weathers, day or night and the Longbow variant can detect, classify and prioritize up to 256 potential targets in a matter of seconds. It carries a mix of weapons including rockets, Hellfire missiles and a 30mm chain gun.

- British Army: Mastiff 2 - Protected Patrol Vehicle
The British Army's Mastiff 2 is a heavily armored, 6x six-wheel-drive patrol vehicle which carries eight people and is operated by two crew members. This vehicle is famous for the protection it offers, where so far since it was deployed to Afghanistan in Mid June 2009, there has yet to been a single fatality in one to enemy action in theatre which proves the survivability is second-to-none.

We hope you have enjoyed this Project Reality progress update. We will be showcasing some more exciting assets in the next few days, so be sure to a keep close eye on the Project Reality forums for updates. Also, don't forget to go vote for Project Reality: Battlefield 2 and/or Project Reality: ArmA2 in the MOTY 2010 competition. Cheers!

Awwww, yeah :D I really feel like NodUnit's Apache thread needs a link though, so here it is:

Ah-64d - Bohemia Interactive Forums (Pics don't work for a few pages)

The details in that and the Mastiff are fantastic and PR: ArmA is going to be my game of the summer.

The new camera on the Mastiff updates look excellent, can't wait to see that armored puppy in game as she is there especially if the paint is matte like that.

The bmp's will be a great addition to PR and it will be nice to have some heavier APC's but not quite tanks (also something I won't flip so much *coughbrdmcough* will we be seeing military bmp1 vs Russian BMp2's?

(Funny story, I was driving a BRDM once and this BTR came hauling down the road, me and my gunner where sitting as a sentry for something or another, he hits us a bit too hard, lifts the tire and flips us onto the side.)

Though best I agree is the optimizations, since one of the patches I haven't been able to play in the urban environments so no insurgency or much of operation

sooo if you guys get the award this year that means you will have gotten rewards for 4 consecutive years...nice streak.
And last but not least thanks for the linking Eddie :D

I guess the choppa is in coming too. I remember seeing it in earlier updates before 0.95 was released.
