Twist it in the other direction and then wrap it tightly around something or put heavy objects on the wire so it can't untwist. Leave it like that for a while. (You won't be able to use your mouse while doing this.)

Good question. Never thought of that really.
I usually just drag my fingers along the wire putting a slight but firm strain on the cable (might have to do that multiple times, don't drag to hard). I think the internal wires are skewed causing this twist. Therefore I believe that multiple untwistings and twistings (in the oposite direction) will be more efficient then just wrapping it around something and then leaving it.
Wiggling it around to relax the tension might work too, but haven't tried it.

On the contrary, I like to have it twisted in multiple circles as it then acts like a spring, extends when I pull, shortens when I push. With a straight wire I usually get short on cable as it descends on the backside of my desk but when I try to pull the mouse the wire will get somewhat stuck on the edge making fast mouse movements uncomfortable for me. So maybe just leave it?

Just use a toothpick or something similar and find a space to poke it through, and the rest is self explanatory.
Or just use this tactic : Might be headphones but wth try it
