Hello, So i downloaded and after many glitches and reinstallation's i managed to get into a game.

Im not gonna lie the game is very good, and very realistic. However there is sooo much to learn i understand im gonna be here for a while learning everything. This is my thoughts on the game. (I Joined different servers so my points arent Biased)

1. Only 60% Work at a team. The other 40% do Lone Wolf all the time. (Kinda ruined it for me) Today i was new so i was following my squad leader, he gets into an ACP and drives off and leaves me in the middle of nowhere .. maybe its an isolated incident, but i seen a lot of people not working as a team.

2. Very hard to communicate. If you dont have a headset... its rather impossible to communicate which is annoying .. They could add some more speech stuff. Also if your on insurgents then when they request medic or something, the text doesn't appear so you have to kinda learn the language the soldiers speak in.

3. I dont understand how spotting works... or is it broke? Or is it just meant to be like that? When im looking at an enemy i press 'Q' and click contact and it doesnt spot them on the radar... The only things it spots on the radar is helicopters and planes. (This is very annoying .. i dont understand why this is like this)

4. Sometimes when your in the middle of nowhere with no transport ... walking is very boring and no one at all on your team will pick you up.. even they drive past you. It gets annoying having to walk.

5. This maybe just me cause im a n00b but i never know where someone is firing from and by the time i get some idea i get shot. Very annoying for a new player.

6. No one ever heals me Dunno why...

7. No one ever does what i thought they would do.. Plan what there gonna do and then do it afterwards.

8. No one ever helps n00bs ... they just are like 'Read the manual' which i have done a lot of times.

9. Also i dunno why i had the Pilot Kit and got in a chopper and it said 'You cannot Use this seat' i was confused.

10. Some kits i pick up the game yells at me 'YOUR NOT ALLOWED IT DROP IT'

Read it one more time and you will know why the contacts do not show on the map. And bro tip: if you're being shot at fall for cover before you try to return fire.

Hey Yett.

PR is a very different game from many others and has a very steep learning curve for new players, but don't let that put you off since once you have climbed that curve, your never going to want to go back

1. & 2. TBH, you really need a mic. Teamwork is built on communication and with bad comms you have bad teamwork. You can get an ok headset these days for only 5 squid:

Once you have a mic, people will take you more seriously and will help you on the good servers.

3. "Spotting" is done by calling what direction its in by the compass and if you want to tell the rest of the team, calling out grid refs and the target type over team chat and even mumble but that's a bit advanced for you yet
No more "auto spotting" like in vBF2 because it can easily be exploited, just randomly spotting in places you think an enemy might be and then if there is an enemy there, the auto spot finds it even thou you didn't know it was there so ye, we removed it
The manual system gets a little bit of time to get use to but once you have got it, it isn't too bad
Just try to avoid saying things like "enemy by that tree" when in a forest

4. ye this can be an issue but get in a good server, with a good squad and your squad leader should arrange all your transport with other squads providing it with no hassle

5. In time, you will learn how to spot enemies and be the first to open up on them. The trick is to look before you walk, and sit in a spot observer the area for a little bit to see what you can see and checking the coast is clear. Also always try and stay in cover and not walking up the middle of an open street saying "look at me, I'm a perfect target!"

6. Once you get a mic, you can talk with your squad medic and then that's no problem, and if you get mumble later on and other medics are on that, they will also help you

7. Can't help you there

8. Like I said, go on a decent serve with a mic and they will help if you ask nicely, saying your new to this game, you have read the manual and you want to play as a team, you just need a bit of help here and there, if the SL says "go read the manual", try another squad

9. You sure you had the pilot kit? What kinda chopper and what seat? Shouldn't really be an issue.

10. You can't pick up enemy kits

True but play in a decent squad or better still decent server won't happen.

Simply you've got to talk in PR, if you're mic less it may explain the above point.

Read manual you can't spot anyone that's one of the many reasons a mic is needed

Again decent squad decent server but most of all a server that uses Mumble avoids this, ensure your team builds FOB's, or train to become a top trans heli pilot

Yes we all get that, PR differs from most run n gun games in that you have to be patient and very careful, use your binoculars from cover before moving etc.

Welcome to the forums and the mod.

1. "you cant mod the players" is a saying here. No matter how much the DEVs put effort in to make the game realistic and teamwork orientated, at the end of the day people will still not work as a team. The best way to reduce this is playing on specific servers and with specific squads.

Servers to play on: NWA, UK Warfare , Tactical gamer . There are other good ones, but these are my personal favorites. You are going to have games where it sucks, no teamwork and the team is shit. But you will have games with excellent teamwork and it will be awesome!.

2. Using a mic isnt necessary, but it does help yes. This is just the nature of the game, with the (mostly) high amounts of teamwork a mic does help. learn to type first or buy a headset

3. This function was removed ages ago , basically its unrealistic. The Squad leader can place static spots on the map using his radio:

As seen in this video, normal squad members cannot do this. As your new i suggest you dont squad lead for now

4. Again this is like with point 1. sometimes you have good games, sometimes you have bad ones. With a good team/squad walking is minimized due to FOBs being built and dedicated transport/Rally points.

5. you will get use to this, first things first just take cover.. intill you get use to it take cover and let your more experienced squad mates locate it.

6. Your squad medic, which should be near you 99% of the time should and will heal you.

7. Dont quite get this point?

8. Ingame people are playing, most cant be assed to discuss stuff and want to play the game, posting on the forum was the best thing as you will get better info.

9. not sure about this? when you requested the kit you picked it up with 'G' yes ?

10. You cant use enemy specialist kits (snipers, Heavy AT, Machine gunner) this is to simulate your player not having the appropriate training/experience with such weapon or the ammo to reload it.

Get on the good server, which require teamwork like PRTA or TG.

About communicating - it's obvious that you can't communicate well without VoIP, that's its purpose, commands ingame are just for fast shouts like frag out, etc. Nobody uses them to communicate. Why would you want to add more when you can just say that enemy is 130, 50m on second floor window?

You can turn in on options that all foreign shouts will be shouted in English, wouldn't recommend putting that option on, as I already stated above Q commands are not for communicating.

All the other doubts wouldn't exist if you have read the manual, for exemple, the things about the kits.

First of all, absolutely don't be shy to ask questions here. You'll have a lot of questions while you're new, and it's good to ask them.

It sounds like you haven't been with a good squad leader so far. A squad leader that goes off to do his own thing sucks, forget about that squad. Here's a tip. On the squad screen (where you see the squad list), if you click the squad name then all members of it will be shown in white on the map. Do that before joining a squad to see where its members are. If you see a squad scattered all over the map, chances are it's a poor squad and not working together.

In the same vein, you shouldn't really be finding yourself alone in the middle of nowhere. If you can't stick with your squad because they are all over the place or ignore you, find a different squad.

You're not allowed to use enemy specialist kits, only their basic rifleman kits.

Oh, and in my experience, teamplay is FAR worse as insurgents. Even on good servers it seems like the insurgents aren't teamplaying most of the time. I'd recommend sticking to conventional forces initially at least.

I hope you get yourself into a good squad soon to see what the game is really like. But in the meanwhile, is there any specific reason why you can't use a microphone? Communicating without it really is hard as you note. The commo rose isn't an adequate replacement and you're missing out on a lot of positive experiences by not using a mic.

EDIT: And gah at all those ninjas, like 5 replies appear while I'm typing mine...

Also start simple.

Join a squad doing infantry called "inf teamwork" or "teamwork" or "inf TW" etc etc, and keep it simple! just use a basic rifleman kit, dont request any specialist kits.

practice using armor, air assets and specialist kits on a local server against bots, then use them online.

With pilot kit you can only pilot the aircraft or be pilot/copilot in helicopters.
You cannot be a passenger in a chopper with a pilot kit to so that people would not do crazy paradrop scenarios as pilot kit is the only one with a parachute.

IIRC, you can't ride as a passenger with the pilot kit. You can only operate in the pilot seat (or gunner seat of attack choppers) with the pilot kit.

If you need to get in as a passenger of a chopper and you have a pilot kit with no way of requesting any other kit, you'll have to drop your kit. Do so by right clicking on the 'request kit' button, then picking up the 'unarmed kit' at your feet.

It sounds like you were running with some bad squads for the most part. PR by no means guarantees that ALL rounds will be filled with awesome teamwork, but it does happen quite frequently. You just have to figure out which servers it happens on most.

I'll probably once again repeat some of what the others said, but let me answer all your questions:

Can happen sometimes. As the others said, try to find a good squad. Look for squad named "Teamwork" "VOIP" "TW" "INF VOIP" "INF TW" "VOIP TW" and all combinations of those. Join servers with a good reputation if possible. Try to switch the team if you don't find a good squad on your team, or even change the server or wait for a better squad to be opened. Look for a good squad name and, before you join, make sure the squad isn't spread all over the map (click on the squad in the list to see the position of all members).

As I said in the other thread, you'd be best off getting a mic. No need to be shy at all. Without, you're VERY handicapped in PR, and you won't be able to enjoy it fully.

As Rhino said, there's no more automatic spotting. Call out the bearing and distance, and describe the surroundings if needed, or give people the coordinates on the map for your target. (For the small grids within the big ones, use the keypad system: Look at the numpad at your keyboard: Like the small grids, it's made of 9 parts. They are named like the keys. The middle of map grid E4 would be E4 keypad 5, or Echo 4 kp 4)

Don't get in the middle of nowhere. You never should be in the middle of nowhere without your squad near you. This can only happen when you are not in a good squad or your squad got wiped out - if the latter is the case, they'll normally organize evac for you, or ask you to meet them at a given place.

Stay in cover at all times. Listen to what squad members say and, most importantly, tell your squad if you see an enemy. If the squad gets ambushed, find cover instantly. Don't be a hero: If you're under fire and don't know where from, run away.

Again, get in a good squad. They're not rare. In a good squad, you will always have a medic there to heal you - IF you can TELL him that you need healing. The default "I need a medic, quick!" sound is often ignored, so you would be best off having a microphone here as well. Noone will ignore a "Hey, Spec, I need healing!" - well, except for those not called Spec, but replace that with their name then

Again, communication. Ask your squad leader exactly what he needs you to do. If he gives you no orders, perhaps you should join a different squad.

I'm sorry. Perhaps you're just unlucky with the squad leaders. Many are tired of explaining things, but others will be helpful. I can't say much more than good luck finding better squad leaders - I'm an awful SL myself due to my lack of understanding of strategy, so I can't offer you to help you out here directly. But if we meet on a server some time, perhaps I'll at least be your medic or something Again; keep your eyes open for squads named "Teamwork" or "VoIP", and get VoIP unless you have a good reason not to. It helps alot and does not hurt.

Ya. Pilots can ONLY take the pilot seat, that's to avoid para-drops. I'm sure someone already mentioned that here.

As probably also already answered: You can not pick up most enemy kits, except for basic rifleman variants. Try not to pick up enemy kits at all, stick to the role you've been given by the squad leader, and stick to your armies kits, because the tracer color could confuse others and lead to friendly fire.

True, this problem can be alleviated by finding good servers. A lot of it comes down to luck as well, finding a good squad. I suggest if you end up stuck as a lone-wolf, see if there's anything that you can do to help out the team. It can be quite dull and I find that I have boring rounds, but they're counterbalanced by the good rounds, where you have a good squad will lots of communication between the team

Yeah a head-set is fairly important, you can get by while you're learning the ropes with text chat - but it's a lot better if you can find a good VOIP squad with lots of people chatting

In Project Reality there is no more spotting, instead you can spot by calling it out to team via the team-chat button 'k'. On the Map there is a grid system which people use to say where enemies are. Each grid square is defined by a number and letter, and is made up of 9 'keypad' squares. It takes a little getting used to but can be just as effective.

Yeah, There are a lot of people who will just drive past but there are a lot who will pick you up. Walking is by no means fun. You'll find walking is less boring if you can find a decent squad, and servers where there's more teamwork going on will have more firebases up so you won't have to walk as far to get to the frontline

You'll get used to this, I rarely know where the fire is coming from. Though often I can have a good guess because of my headset. The best way to avoid this is to try and stay in or close to cover. You need to be able to get into hiding as soon as bullets come whizzing past. If you can work out the direction from the sound or from visual clues (for example dust hitting to one side of you) you can try and cover yourself from that side. If all else fails, shoot at where you think they are to suppress them, and run like mad.

Generally if you get fired at you shouldn't try to fire back unless it's to supress. If they've fired at you first, chances are you'll lose the fight unless you can get somewhere safe.

There can only be medics in squads where there are 2 or more people, so often there will be maybe 5 or 6 medics on the field. Being a medic isn't quite as easy as throwing a medi-bag to the floor. Often people won't revive team-mates who aren't in the same squad, so again it helps to be in a good squad

There's often not a great deal of planning in public play. I found the tactics in public squads generally revolves around sticking together, with some commands from the squad leader when they feel like it. Try to fill the role that the others aren't, for example covering the rear to stop people sneaking up on you, or suppressing while your squad-mates get accurate fire in. There's not teamwork at every level in public play, most people will try to help out the team/squad in one way.

This is true, Often people are too pre-occupied filling a role to guide newbies. I've seen some very nice squad leaders who are very happy to have a newbie tag along. If all else fails, listen to the squad leader and try to be a good squad-member, and just tag along while you learn the ropes.

If you were on a Co-Op server it was likely because some aircraft can only be used by the Bot players. Sadly there's no way to identify these aircraft from the normal ones other than that message

Many kits are locked so you can only get them once you are in a squad with at least 4 people.

If you aren't finding good teamwork on a server, try some other ones. I have generally found NwA and UKWF servers are quite good for teamwork. And they're based in the UK so you should get low ping

Yep this happens sometimes. events have almost 100% teamwork so look out for event and sign up for them using the Forums here. they are very worth while. some people are *** hats and dont care what you think. but most people do care about what you think.

get a headset with mike. its the corner stone of the game. Get a good one so its not crackly, spend on it once and you wont need to ever again.

Normal riflemen dont spot. its complicated and basically only crewmen and squad leaders can spot. which brings me to a different.
DEV question: do we still need the big "Spotted" Button on normal riflemen anymore?

this is a part of the game that you are ment to avoid getting stuck in. if your in a good squad, you will get good support, good support means reliable crews for transport squads and APCs. dont rambo or you'll get stuck in the middle of nowhere in a very boring situation. look for squads names "ENG VOIP" or "INFANTRY" they usually fill up quickly and have an encouraging squad leader.

Dont allow this to happen. when you get good, go squad leader and organise people, players will want to be with a productive leader, even the players that look like they are being retarded.

Read the manuel a couple of times. I have to go back to the manuel again and again and i've been playing for years. i was even a tester going through all the builds and there are still loads of new stuff to firmiliarise myself with. ignore fools who tell you to RTFM they usually are hypocrits and dont actually know the answer to the question you are asking. Follow others around and watch what they are doing, its the fastest way to understand the game.

On cooperative mode, as opposed to deployment, there are some vehicles that are ment for Bots and not humans. if you got that message in a deployment server that means you got into the gunner of a gunship with a pilot from another squad. its to promote communication within the squad.

its a recent change to the game. when you pick up an enemy kit you must drop it or your screen will go black. wait any longer than that and you'll die. in this version we are not allowed use enemy kits.

Yes, to people not on mumble pressing spotted simply does the voice and alerts those around you.

Good drivers, or good shots... decisions, decisions...

On the 60% 40% teamwork ratio. It depends on what servers you visit but its always there. Theres always some people doing there own stuff.

But than again, when was the last time you worked like a squad in a game like Call of duty or any other online shooter for that matter. Not counting clans or group of friends. You have a chance at worst to get in a 60% 40% teamwork game. That means that theres 19/20 people you dont know, are working together with you and you with them. Thats pretty cool I'd say.
