Intermittent VOIP

I doubt anyone can help but I'm having issues with my VOIP. Without Mumble the VOIP enabled won't pick up anything from my mic during the test and naturally won't let me hear any in-game chat. When I come out of the game to the options window to check, it has reset to disabled.
When I run mumble everything works fine, I get into game join a squad and mumble/VOIP works for about a minute and then in the player menu I see that the speaker symbol has gone and I hear no one no one hears me. I check Mumble, I'm still logged into to the right server, I try moving manually backwards and forwards between team and waiting room but I get the same issue.
What ends up happening is the server kicks me for not being on mumble although I am, and of course without VOIP I get kicked from squads anyway- and then from the server for not being in a squad!
My system is
Pentium 4 3GHz
1 GB RAM
ATI Radeon X1050
SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
I'm using a Microsoft LifeCam for the mic- never had any probs with any other game though

Check your Windows audio setup. Make sure 'mike boost' is checked. when you start game voip test should see your mike.
Good luck

Make sure that the speakers and mic are set as default as indicated in this image:

I appreciate the responses guys, Coward- your advice looked like it was going to work. When I first started PR and checked the audio options, the mic test worked fine. When I then went into the game the speaker symbol wasn't there and I had the same non-VOIP as before. I went back out and re-checked my PC's sound options in the desktop and they had reverted from default (new setting following your suggestion)back to the mic?! I changed them back and ticked the 'use only default settings' and tried the in-game mic test again, but still no joy. I went back out to the desktop sound options and selected the mic as the new setting just to see- and again no response in the mic test.

The check box "use only default devices" should not be important for you. However what is select in the drop down menus is.
Maybe your are simply self-muted ingame (happens when using voip when a round ends).
Try this:
Join a server, press and hold "tab", click on "Manage", while pressing your transmit key click on the speaker icon next to your name untill it is not crossed out but the speak is lit up.

cheers I'll try it but, my main issue is that I start with a speaker symbol and can hear my squad for a few seconds and then silence, my speaker symbol disappears and the game has manually reset my VOIP/mic activation so that it picks up nothing. If I restart, then the mic test works before a game, but soon as I join it deactivates again

Check your routers log files for any disconnect of services. Sometimes voip traffic can be misinterpreted as "ping flood"attack and the router shuts down needed ports cutting off packet flow to protect your network,.
So try turning packet inspection off to see if that helps.
Good luck

I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is, as the same thing happened to me. You need to 'start' -> 'Run' -> type in 'dxdiag' -> wait for it to load -> click the 'sound' tab -> slide 'hardware acceleration' into 'off' position. Hopefully that should fix it. Remember to search the forum as you would have found the solution to this.
