I think this would be a decent asset to add to the list, a Deployable LRAS
Could be very useful and gives people on the ground FLIR, a powerful zoom, even laser designation for when an officer is not in the area, and could be a great help on maps like lashkar and korengal valley.
Not sure which armies use it but a quick google shows many sources that the US Army does.

All same can be done whit GLTD more efficiently. I dont think that device is meant to be used in ranges that we would in PR(<1km)
Maybe in Pr:arma...

what would be the point in it, basically GTLD's which you have to get in?
And if their isnt an officer around, you should probably try to stay with your squad more often

??:

Just cause they have TOWs and GTLDs in real life does not stop them from having this, obviously if this was considered it would be low priority but it can be useful, yes a TOW has FLIR and zoom, but the zoom is shit and it cant laze, sure a GTLD can laze but it doesn't have FLIR. I dont think these are good enough reasons to not consider the asset being brought to the game.

erm

not a little bit of zoom
and yeah its just a stationary officer kit that snipers or good shots can pick off easy prey with FLIR, may as well just stick with your officer or hope your officer is nt a RAMBO and takes a SAW or a sniper kit

The other day, my squad was holding Swamp objective on Barracuda (as US) while the rest of the team was on map support or assaulting key areas around and in Missile Silo. Several times we came under sniper fire, to the point where manning a TOW to locate him was suicide, and actually found a great solution: We called over our CAS buddy to overfly the suspected sniper location and pick him up with his gunner's FLIR. He found the sniper, lazed him, I picked up the laze with my GLTD, marked it, and ordered my Grenadier to range and eliminate, which he did. The sniper's spotter ran but was downed by a few precise hydras.
FLIR support is a great (and tactically realistic) opportunity to call on interaction with other squads. Do we want to risk losing that when the victims have a friendly FOB nearby?

Honestly i think it dosent worth all the effort... every Surv Op system i know that are fielded are airborn or vehicle based... except for a couple mast mounted FLIR that are only used in FOB ( when i mean FOB i mean a real BIG FOB not a little outpost where you spawn )
Anyone ever heard of the "BALLOON" used in afghanistan ?
