Another fix for CTD on "Join Server"

Well, my friend had this problem with his BF2 and I recently found the fix to it.
Symptoms of exact problem:
CTD on "Join Server"
Unable to open sound menu under options
Fix:
To fix this problem go to your device manager (Under Control Panel or My Computer), click on "Sound, video and game controllers", and then disable "High Definition Audio Device"
Now, this will disable your onboard audio device, but will fix the problem.
Another way to fix this is to go to: My Documents>Battlefield 2>Profiles>000x and open Audio.con. When inside, replace "AudioSettings.setVoipEnabled 1" with "AudioSettings.setVoipEnabled 0"
However, this method disables VoIP which is crucial in Project Reality.
