My mouse has 3 side thumb buttons but the middle one isn't recognized by any programs so I just set a macro to read the button press as if I were pressing X. This way I have my flares right there by my thumb and I can use it to zoom on ground vehicles too!

Modesty apart, I'm an excellent pilot, and I fly with keyboard only.

which is the only other way to fly baby.

keyboard for life....

(i use a joystick in plane sims ie MSFS :X and Il-2)

I would use joystick but honestly the small map size in comparison with the jets i cant do it. meh.

X is fine. X is always fine. I use it for my prone damnit. DEATH TO CTRL4Prone! DEATH TO LEFTSHIFT FOR FLARES (jk <3)

'space' bind for flares seems good to me, free key, usable by thumb, have no cross-presses.

I myself was quoting someone. Keyboard flight is alright but the main disadvantage of keyboards are the lack of precise throttle control.

Anyways, a joystick only helps for very advanced maneuvers where throttle precision is key.

I never understood why that was a complaint. I guess it's because I have big hands, however E is a very dangerous key...

Advanced maneuvers are not needed in PR. At least I dont need them while flying helis.
You need them for doing stunts, and if you do stunts you should not fly.

Well if your going mouse and keyboard, you could use your left thumb, that is if the space bar isn't needed. (I haven't played a single game yet)

Lol I took the X key off of every function and changed it to Spawn Screen
Now I use the V key for everything like flares, zooming on armor, etc
I forget what the default for V is though

Have no problems with it being the x key, I am usually doing evasive manuevers at the same time anyways and more often than not dodge the missle instead. *mouse/keyboard chopper pilot and damned good at it*

At high speeds when locked you usually only need W(trotle) on your keyboard so its ok to have X as flare button.

I agree with your statement in the case of helicopters (as you said) although in the case of planes, I believe that "advanced" maneuvers are required in PR, although only for the reason when you have a fighter jet on your tail, making advanced maneuvers ensures that you can get off their tails. E.g. A Split S (although considered "basic") is much eaiser to perform with a joystick than with a keyboard and mouse.

( Note: I only use joystick for planes, never for choppers :P )

Well, it's always a good thing to get away from the flares that has a missile coming its way. Not that doing that requires advanced maneuvering, but it does require some kind of maneuvering.
