Minimum UGL distance accurate?

Did some quick research, seems that the M203's minimum distance for grenade rounds is 14 - 27 meters (50 meters is recommended).

I'm assuming that's just the minimum for safety reasons, but this doesn't seem to be the case in PR. Now, I'm not an UGL expert by any stretch and I've just started using the Grenadier kit regularly, but it does seem like I fire alot more "duds" than I should.

Case in point: I was at the Docks in Muttrah City, in the large green warehouse (with the yellow doors), just west of the flag warehouse. I was a MEC Grenadier up on the scaffold (a good 15-20 ft up I'd say) in the center door firing nades down at a full squad on the north (longer) side that must've been at least 40 ft away that weren't detonating. 14 meters is ~ 45 ft plus the height of say 15 ft and we're talking 60 ft of distance. I would guess that you could probably drop an armed 203 grenade from 20 ft straight down on concrete and it would detonate on it's own, but yet fired with greater velocity (250 ft/s), it's a dud.

Does this seem right?

Pretty sure it's right. The devs probably went with the 27 meters insterad of the 14. I think the arming distance currently is around 30-ish, so a bit higher than average; or they went with the recommended distance of 50. Either way, the G3 UGL isn't even an M203, so maybe the arming distance for that thing was different anyway.

Having just talked to my good friend [R-MOD]Thermis who is an Air Traffic Control Repair man in the US Military, he says the way that the M203 shell works is it is a gyroscope, and needs 7 complete spins to arm itself. This normally takes about 31 metres according to this website. I am not entirely sure of the in-game values, but I would be surprised if they were not made to real life accuracies, or at least scaled for PR gameplay.

Heh, so if 30 is right the Devs were pretty much spot on :) I think I hit targets under 50m, so I guess the M203 works fine (and the other UGLs too).

The arming distance in-game is 30.34 meters.

Good to know. All good points, actually. Thanks.

Just a question, 30.34 meters in what way? Image

The projectile itself must travel 30.34m before it arms so it has nothing to do with where the shooter is. At that distance, drop is negligible.

Why is the maximum distance for the m203 250m? Is it like that on all m203's?

You CAN shoot further, only thing is, IRL the sights for the M203 only goes that far. All the UGL's in PR have sights equal to their real life counterparts.

You can shoot much further and still accurate, I've found a way to shoot the M203 like 350 meters with same accuracy as I would shoot it 200 meters. :p

It was easy to hit 400+ even before the functional sights, you just needed points of reference on any object in-front of you.

Pictures says it all, by aiming with the top point of the 350meters-triangle at a target wich is 350 meters away, you'll 'hit' it, it's not guaranteed you'll hit it 100%, but it is useful for suppression, etc.

I wanted to also demonstrate it, but it was stupid that I chose Karbala because the view distance is low, I'll try uploading later some pics on Kashan proving my theory is right! :D

I found out though that with the M4 with UGL and a set distance of 50m, you cannot even see the UGL sights if you have picked a rifle with a scope. The scope just totally blocks the view. Can be quite annoying to aim effectively with it :/

As for the duds.. yeah, Have them a lot too. I sometimes have duds when shooting around fairly straight, about 70 meters out. Just like the rounds do not explode if they aren't dropped with a steep enough angle. is this correct ?

Just like M203's in reality. This is one of several reasons why the US is switching to the M320.

I'm believe they are effective up to 350, with a maximum range somewhere close to 600. On Op Archer *previous version* I was able to get some insanely far kills with the nade launcher. I am not sure if it was changed with the new sighting system though.

can someone please explain to me how to use the new UGL sights? I did wonders with the old ones but I cant hit anything with the new one. When I sight it in 50 / 100 / 150 which ever it may be, I never know which part of the gun to aim with :S
