L85 - why ACOG instead of SUSAT?

Always wondered about that in PR, why do the British have Trijicon ACOG scopes on their L85s instead of the regular SUSAT sight that is standard to them? Not saying it's wrong, just wondering.

It's because PR is now called Project America

I remember reading from a DEV somewhere, possibly one of the MAs, that the SUSAT is being phased out in the BAF. Also, not EVERY L85 in game has an ACOG. Many of the requestable kits still have the SUSAT on them. i.e. Grenadier, Marksman, more but I don't feel like checking at the moment..

Weapons used by some Royal Marines, infantry, and other soldiers with a dismounted close combat role in operations in Afghanistan have had the SUSAT replaced with the Trijicon Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight (ACOG).
From 2007 an upgrade including the provision of ACOGs, a new handguard incorporating Picatinny rails (with optional hand grip/bipod), and a new vortex style flash eliminator is being introduced for use by selected units.
Also...i'm pretty sure it's explained somewhere on the forums

Cocky now are we Drummond ?
I got a another question regarding the american ACOG.. How do you aim it ? I am talking about this one :
http://www.samson-mfg.com/mm5/graphics/ ... A33-8R.jpg
Do you aim the the top of the arrow ? Or do you place the actual arrow on the target ? I cant seem to figure wich is dead center ?
Enlighten me lads..

The top of the arrow, m8.

top of the arrow for contacts in close range, the further the range the more under the arrow they go but since PR's ranges are so small, its rare that you will need to account for any bullet drop.
EDIT: damn ninja.

The SUSAT is being phased out, but the "official" replacement will not be the ACOG - it'll be an Elcan, with a red-dot sight mounted on top. ACOGs currently in theatre are temporary replacements or personal sights, I believe.

perhaps with those modernising RIS but in it's original shape it's lovely. frankly I find those RIS just bad taste on account of the brits, you don't modernise an ak74 with a little RIS either, right? (poles and czechs don't need to reply)
it's peculiar that both the french as the brits don't seem to like the rifles that define their armies and let them stand out from the bulk! I, for one, like the famas and the l85 (though especially the l86) better than all those ar-15 variants

I like the "regular" L85, those new ones with rails all over them are ugly as hell.

Source? I was to believe it would be the
Elcan Spectre DR which isn't like that. It's an all-in-one sight with a switch on it that allows the user to quickly change between 1x and 4x.

Here's the thing: Like many other pieces of military equipment, until the day it is "officially" phased out, you never really know what is going to happen. Funding can change, causing items to remain in inventory for several years longer than planned. New technology could come along prior to the swap which leads to a different item taking its place. Or some dumbass politician thinks it's better to simply "upgrade" the old components instead of replacing them outright.
So until a replacement is actually fielded, the best option is to use what we see in use at this time. If the ACOG is currently the most common SUSAT replacement in the field, then that's what you'll be seeing in PR.
Personally, I hated the SUSAT. But then again, I hated the L85's too. In fact, I dislike all bullpup rifles, with the minor exception being the AUG and that was border-line. In my many years of firearms experience, the ONLY bullpup weapon that I have ever really liked was the P90. Maybe I'm biased from being raised on regular rifles. But when it comes to optics, I just didn't feel that the SUSAT performed as well as it should have. My experience with them was limited though, maybe it just didn't have enough time to "grow" on me.
I do agree that I am personally biased towards the ACOG family, mainly because it's what I've used for years and is one of the only optics that I've desired to mount to my weapons. I'll take irons over a red-dot style of optic any day, so you can assume correctly that I don't like Aimpoints either. I can't see a single thing "wrong" with the ACOG, and if that's what soldiers are using in the field on their L85's then why would anyone complain about it being in PR?
