This has been mentioned in threads before, but as far as I can tell it's never actually been the subject of a thread. So discuss to your heart's delight

i think it would be a great tool for better battlefield awareness for the commander. he could still call in the big UAV but he could also rely on the micro UAV to get even closer to the battle and more real time,

Out of interest could this be programmed to automatically 'spot' targets, and put them on the map (but only for the commander)?
I can't really see a guy sitting in the FOB controlling one and then reporting back to his squad (or the occasional commander).. But I can see it being used a LOT if it's automated.
On Afghan maps would also make for some very interesting firefights.

Please not. It was extremely annoying in vBF2 to have a stealth approach ruined by the enemy team using the UAV to look through buildings and whatnot without anyone even doing anything.

Could this Micro UAV have a new control system?
A and D (or Strafe Left and Right) to turn Left and Right and Mouse to operate the camera underneath that can rotate 360*. Forward motion is constant

this is a good suggestion, It would be sweet to have aerial recon, imagine being in ALKOMIN, in Iron eagle. It would help a lot to have a recon bird patrolling the area surronding the flag instead of walking kilometers just to check a small area.
Also it should have a fuel meter, so that it would not stay up for a whole round, because realistically it wouldn't. But i love the suggestion

No absoulute no, the commander should be the only one with this ability and giving it to grunts is pointless, as It'll be like mortars taking uneccary people from the battle and giving them a toy which is already in game, i don't see the point tbh.... i guess however it'd be nice for FOB's to mark enemy contacts when they get within 200 - 100 meters and if it's a large force say if 12-18 people eneter the 200 meter area a enemy objective marker is placed or sometihng like that, not that'd be betetr thna this thing.

The more uav thingies the more you have to remember that we have very limited space where troops can go in PR, so let's try find good balance between tactical movement and seeing everything like vanilla. We yet have to see how CO uav works.

Id like the idea...if it wasnt just a "new toy" that people would try to do and take people off the frontlines to do so.
I like the idea for the tactical capability of it tho and with a good "pilot/spotter" if would be a powerful force.

UAV's aren't piloted. They are like an RC car with wings. But on subject, in regards to the idea of auto spotting, such a thing should not be able to go through buildings or have thermal. Nor should it be able to spot anything outside of it's target area. I personally liked the UAVs they use to do in Full Spectrum warrior and "grunts" per say could use UAVs. the Raven Operator is a role that is to make an appearance in AA3. Which was designed for the US Army. The UAV Operator MOS is 15 Quebec. They maintain, prep and control the UAV.
You could either give it some kind of capability to mark thing's on the map like they do in A2 or it could fly around an area, and within a small perimeter spot enemies automatically, which could be relayed to a PC or wherever the Operator is who could pass it on to the commander. It should also be possible to shoot it down if a 2nd UAV is to be introduced.

Are these realistic amongst front line infantry is the question.

How about we implement a UAV that doesnt thrash a server and drop people by the dozens, before we start building stylized version?

US and Norwegians are using them,(maybe more but dont have info)...
Yes, SPAIN use too Raven RQ-11b in Astan, just i go to fly there this next 19th of january for two months in qalaw e now air base.
so, im in a recon/raven team in my work and i can speak a lot about this.
First of all if DEVS want to implement a SUAV?s in PR, need to decide first wht type of small unnarmed air vehicle want to make, cuase we have too many options. Raven its not the same to wasp and have a lot of differences with PUMA UAV for example.
Raven its a system designed for a recon team that are close the enemy, the radious of action it 10km and the autonomy its around 90min max of flight. It has not rotating cameras. It uses two types of payloads, one for day time with two fixed cam, one pointing to the front and other pointing left with 45 degrees to the ground. The second payload for night only have a left pointing thermal cam with no zoom.
Kain888 give the point on this suggest IMHO , in PR we have a small space for the troops and a limited people that can play. (think in 3 for mortars squad + 2 for raven team= 5 slots not fighting in the frontline.) This system need a accurate proportionality in radious of action and people to menage.
i would like to say too, that this system of SUAV?s its thinking for asymmetrical combat envoirments, perfect for counter insurgency not for a conventional war between two modern factions.
i can speak a lot about this, types of misions, technical information and some professional tips if finally this suggestion going up. I would like to try modeled RAVEN RQ 11B if its needed, cause i have all the pieces all days in my hands.
Nice suggestion for me, i really enjoy to see my work inside PR, but its going to be hard to implement a good system.

Well I think that, as many people said, it is maybe too much...
MAYBE give this ability to the sniper? (puts on fire-retardant jacket)
But honestly, I think the CO's UAV already does the job (a GOOD CO)... I'm just saying that, giving mini-uavs to squads would simply create even more isolated islands between squads, I think. I could be wrong, it could be totally opposite.

To decide the role maybe the most imortant...
1/ SUAVs like a squad role (like mortars) maybe harcoded and need a lot of changes...
2/ like always; comander tool to find intel.
I dont think that a combined role like sniper-uav its realistic. IMO
