I recently updated my pc with a new Quad Core Q8300 2.5GHz CPU and 4gigs of ram.
Well ever since i have installed them when i play PR, my pc crashes after about 30-45mins of gameplay.
My specs are:
- Windows 7 Ultimate
- Quad Core Q8300 2.5GHz
- 4gb DDR2 Ram
- Nvidia GT240
- 1TB HDD
- 450W PSU
I have updated all my drivers and it hasnt solved the problem.
Its quite annoying so any help would be much appreciated..
Thanks
PS: It worked fine before i upgraded my CPU

I got the same problem.I also have Win7. Computer shuts down when playing maps that use a lot of memory I guess. It can be because of the heat or power-supply imo. Not sure though.

Have you checked your temps?

Do you mean a hard lock of your system? (usually comes with repeating audio and inability to use control alt delete) or does it restart?
What the guy earlier said about temps, its possible, I know I had this issue when building my computer that the temps were outragous and it was because I didnt seat the CPU fan correctly.

Yes i mean the computer locks up (audio repeating itself and the only thing i can do is hold down the power button of my pc till it shuts off).
I just checked my temps and the they are roughly 65-73 degrees celcius which by the sounds of it is pritty high!
Do you think ive done the same by not setting the CPU fan up correctly?

Are those temps while playing PR?

Yes, those temps are too high.
Reinstall the fan and make sure to use coolant paste between the cpu and the fan.

is that powersupply enough?
i have 500w and some guy in computerstore advice me to get more powerfull powersupply.
(i have little problems with my ram memorys and also getting bluesscreens at startup.so he thinked maybe my 500w powersuplly is not enought to start at cold boot)

The fan is installed correctly and i have thermal paste already on their..
When i get enough money i am going to buy a new fan

I was also thinking that it could be the PSU but i can run Arma 2 on very high fine with temps at 60 (max) but they are usually 55 degrees so its something on the PR side aswell as my machine overheating.

Take off the heat sink, wipe off the thermal paste from both and use alcohol to get them completely clean. Put a drop of thermal paste about the size of a large pea in the middle of the CPU then put the heat sink on and secure it tightly (but not too tight!)
How much thermal paste did you put on the first time? Too much can increase temperatures.

Well that might be my problem, it was my first time installing CPU's and i smothered it in thermal paste lol

Just installed my new Heatsink and my temps are now around 45-49c which is alot better than getting 70c+ with my old one but the problem still persists and it keeps locking up after around 45mins of playing.

The same thing happens to me. And the only thing I can really do is shut it down by the power button. I even have my case open, so heat shouldnt be a problem. This has never happened before with my computer. It started about a week or two ago...

As you case is open check your fans for dust, dust can clog and then overheat the CPU fan.

Having the case open or not will have little to no effect on your cooling efficiency depending on your solution for cooling. The only way I can see opening the case improve the cooling is if you have a big fan blowing directly into it.

My case isnt open, i just got a new heatsink and my temps are around 38c - 45c so its not overheating or dust

Ok I had a similar problem and I thought the same thing of heat but it ended up being my CPU and MOBO were not compatible what is your motherboard? Your temps are high you do need to fix that but there not high enough to cause a crash. Crash temps on Intel series are 80 - 90 C. How long dose it take for this to happen? I'm going to guess from 45min to 1.5 hours but sometimes it doesn't crash and some days more than others?
