My mic is insanely low and I have no idea how to fix it.

First, I'll discount the problems it could be.
- It's not the mic or equipment itself. I've used three different kinds and they all have the same problem. I've also used the mic on other things and it works perfectly.
- It's not my settings. Threshold is at 0 with mic boost on, plus my system settings are also maxed out.
- It's not just a random fluke during the game because it happens 100% of the time.
- It's not a bad install because I've reinstalled several times and had the same problems.
I've also searched all over the forums for tips and couldn't find anything useful. I heard someone suggest I go into vBF2 settings and mess around with those, but when I try that it will not let me alter anything. I don't think it even recognizes my mic. Any way to fix this or am I destined to have to yell into my mic to allow others to hear me?

Does windows control the audio, or software like realtek?
I had the same problem. I downloaded the newest version of the audio manager for my mobo and set up the mic gain in there, worked out great.

The software is controlling it. I'm guessing it's realtek. Where can I download what you downloaded?

Try
here on RealTek's website. Pick the type of audio you use and then go to the software. Pick the driver only download for your OS, for the quickest update download the executable with only the version of the OS that you use.

Didn't work at all, but now I can sound like I'm in a stone hallway, so that's kinda good, I guess. There is no control for the mic sensitivity or anything like that.

I'll put a screenshot tonite if you cannot find it by description.
In the realtek panel click on microphone you'll see a slider bar. to the right of the slider bar are 2 boxes.
The rightmost box should be mic boost.
Click on that, and slide the slider to max... 4db I think.
..edit..
oh boy you have XP. I was giving instructions from Win7
XP is really hidden. Here is a vid that shows where it should be in your version of realtek.
The mic boost is round in the playback options... stupid place to put it.

Of course you could understand that a little. But in English: use the microphone boost.
In your taskbar's extended icons, there should be the icon for the volume control. Double-click it, and a system executable should run and pop up. It's the volume control executable. Find the advanced controls somewhere, and once you've toggled them, there should be a microphone boost option.
SnipeHunt's method should work, but if it doesn't try increasing your mic volume either from the volume control I mentioned earlier or from the audio settings in the control panel. I'm not sure what it's exactly labeled as, but you should know when you see it if you don't already. But of course, everything I'm suggesting is things that people should normally know about, though it's not uncommon to find people who don't know what to check, after all, there's so many different things.

It sounds like the OP already set up the mic boost in windows.
