Updating server list problem

Hi guys, first post here 
But now down to business. As the title says, I have a problem updating the server list. Whenever I start the game and hit the update button, the box that says it is updating pops up and stays there forever( I literally waited there for an hour to see what would happen). Also when it pops up, none of the servers show up and start filling in behind it as they usually do. Sometimes, maybe once out of every four times I start the game, and it does work, the box will go away and I can click on and therefore refresh the servers.... but only for five or ten seconds. then if i try to update again the same thing as above happens. I have tried restarting the game, restarting my computer, reinstalling PR, using another BF2 id, and none of it has changed anything. I do live in a dorm at college, but my twin brother lives down the hall from me and has no problems whatsoever. This problem is occuring on my desktop computer, but I also tried out my laptop and it works fine too. My dektop hooked up by an ethernet cable, but my laptop is wireless. soooo, my question is can anyone help me out.
EDIT:Same problem in vanilla BF also, and I got new graphics card drivers just in case but that didnt help either.
I did use search and I didn't find anything quite like this. This is my first post so if I did anything wrong or if u guys have some advice for me PLEASE say so.
