i have a small question, would it be possible or is it in the realms of the engine and our coding capabilities for a mortar bomb to be guided onto a "lazed" target. ala' fire a guided mortar bomb from a deployed tube, and then guide that munition onto the target?, it's just a question, not a suggestion, i just want to know if "something" like this would be possible? its for something related i am mulling over.

Yeah it's possible. You can have a projectile lock onto a target box as it's coming down.
In fact, with enough trial and error, you could very realistically simulate a 155mm Copperhead round.

sorry about the confusion , i was only trying to explain an idea i am having, the only way to do so was put in a already in game framework.....though laser guided mortars would be cool, i think they have already been suggested.
ok part two of question, can the person lasing a target fire a projectile at the target? and if so can a range modification be made to the target projectile point of impact.
( +/- ~mtrs=POI>/< )
p.s i am sometimes on PRTS3 around 1000z-1200z

Would be cool, I have a friend that fired something similar when he did military service here in Sweden. Found a clip on Youtube, this weapon is called "GRAN".
The downside is that it maybe would be used "to much" because its so accurate and then there will be no tanks on the map any more.

Coding wise, the lase is an object. It's a sticky box with a laser target attached to it. The person lasing would have to switch weapon once the target is lased if you want them to fire a projectile. As for adjusting range....not sure what you mean here....it's either going to be guided and it will hit the laser dead on, or it's unguided in which a case there's no reason for a laser.

I'm thinking that he may be wanting to lase a specific position on the ground then move the lase spot around. To be honest though, I don't see the point, just redo the lase.
When I was enlisted (U.S. Army '96-'00) we worked with artillery units using the copperhead rounds. They were firing from I think 15 miles, and were pinpoint accurate. Cool stuff, but I can't think of a balanced implementation for PR. Launching those from the mortar pit would be overpowered, as there would be no armor left on the battlefield on AAS maps, and would just be ridiculously overpowered (can you say long range cache sniper) on insurgency. This could maybe be used as a twenty minute cooldown commander ability on AAS maps, but that is about the best I can come up with.

If the game starts packing heavy mortars... then heck I'm for it... might go nice with a 128 player cap on the 4 km maps.... Artillery is a hugely important tool in real combat....

i am not thinking any one system, though that could be something that might be applicable. there are now a few systems that use a similar kind of targeting arrangement, some are Direct trajectory some indirect, but i am really asking more about if this kind of idea is plausible. i think it might open up a few options with some of the less well known but common weapon systems, in conjunction with some problems i have in-counted with targeting dead fire zones.
