[0957] Eurofighter Vertical Acceleration Bug

I had a good look around and couldn't find anything about this, so I'm posting here- If I've missed a glaringly obvious old thread, my bad, sorry.

Description:
The Eurofighter is able to accelerate vertically, straight after takeoff, while accelerating faster than it does flying horizontally, or even vertically toward the ground with afterburner on.

Steps to Reproduce:
Take off in GB_JET_EUROFIGHTER, fly vertically upward at any point during flight with afterburner on. After a few seconds your acceleration should go through the roof.

Screenshots / Video:
I have a fairly unclear Fraps. Should be easy enough to test without it, can supply if needed.

Tested On:
Battle for Qinling, AAS64, Local, version 0.957

Edit: Also, before anyone tries to exploit this, when you hit altitude 5000 you can no longer control the plane. And with the speeds this thing can reach- That's not long at all.

What you're experiencing is something to do with an issue/feature seen in vBF2. It happens with every jet, get above X altitude and your speed will go out of control. I believe it was put in place by DICE to limit the altitude jets can fly at, that is if it isn't a bug. (Speeds increase rapidly at around 3000m alt.)

speed variations due to altitude is normal, and realistic, there is less air resistance on the craft to allow it to move more easily, simple physics.
The bug he described however has to do with vertical climbs from low altitude allowing the aircraft to accelerate at amazing speeds.

All jets will accelerate faster(with afterburner ofc) when going vertically up than going vertically down or flying horizontally.

I just tried it with the Kashan 64 F16 and it does exactly the same as the eurofighter, just not as easily since it takes longer to get up vertical. And I can confirm that speeds did increase hugely at 3000m, so yes, this is much more consistent than I first thought.

Also, after testing the vBF2 F16 and another US jet which I didn't recognise on Operation Clean Sweep 64 local, the jets there simply seem to flip over uncontrollably at 2300 speed 2000 altitude. It might be because of how sensitive the vBF2 controls are, though, and be because I screwed up.

Regardless of anything else, though, this entire phenomena seems out of place in PR- But it's most likely hardcoded.

Key thing here though, the Eurofighter IS able to accelerate vertically in RL, their engines are that powerful.

The air density lowers as you get higher, and the engine isn?t affected by this, but the wings are (so you lose control but still accelerate).

I don't think this has anything to do with it, as all jets behave the same way.

Really, it's -not- because of the air density, or even if the Eurofighter can do it- The other jets can't. Being able to accelerate -directly upwards- faster than you can dive under afterburner is beyond my comprehension. If this is accurate, then I screwed up, but hey. It screams "THIS IS WRONG!" to me.

I can't believe that people are actually mentioning that the air gets thinner as you go higher, hence the plane is faster. This is BF2.

Also, there is less oxygen at higher altitudes, so less available thrust. But lets not discuss this as it is pointless.

Actually its because as far as I know it is the way it is coded. Remember you get to 5000 and lose control? Yup, thats because in BF2 "air" ceases to exist, therefore the "wings" cease to be affected by it, and therefore when you move control surfaces (wings) it does nothing.

The engine however doesn?t care about this, therefore keeps propelling you to infinity.

Actually Alex, you'd know as much as anybody, isn't the ability to climb vertically (speed wise) set by ObjectTemplate.setTorque in jets???
