Dumb question

I am new to PRBF2. Started playing a week ago and I love it.
The maps are boss as well as the structure, weapons and vehicles.
That being said, I know I'm missing out by not having a mic. Seems like there are some people who play and can hear team/squad chat, but can't talk back. Like they are in listen-only mode or something. I hate being the guy who obviously can't hear the squad's orders unless they type them in chat.
I'm trying to get my mic back from my brother (might take 2 or 3 weeks til I see him), but was wondering if it's possible to install Mumble and at least hear what squadleaders/commanders are saying with them knowing I can't respond except for chat?
Thanks guys for any help you can offer.

hi,
of course you can and its absolutly appreciated if you install and run mumble even without a mic. you better only be a squadmember though because as a sql or cmdr you definitly need a mic. if you are a squadmember youre supposed to be in "team 1" or "team 2" not in the squadleader channel. there you can only hear local talk but not what squadleaders are saying.

No sir, I don't hear anyone's voice in-game. I didn't install Mumble during PR install, but I noticed last night there were some guys who could obviously hear voice but couldn't respond. I figure that's better than just seeing chat on screen.

If you can't hear anyone's voice in-game then you sir have a technical problem which we can fix
Make a post in the PR:BF2 Support section of the forums with details of your system etc.
Welcome to the forums, and the community.

Like Jigsaw said. The ingame VOIP is something else than Mumble. If you cant hear the voicechat from your squad-members (The green guys on the map) than you've got a setting on the wrong side or even a technical error. Check your audio levels. You may have muted ingame voip.
Mumble is for the teammembers (blue-guys) as well as the squadmembers. Just wanted to clear that up.

Just making sure, Did you enable VOIP ingame?
Like in the settings menu their should be an option to turn on or off voip

Thanks gents....I just ran the game, went to audio options and tried to check the VOIP box. I then hit 'apply' and it saved it. I then went back in audio and saw the VOIP box wasn't checked. So I checked it again, applied it and ran an internet game, but couldn't hear voice. For some reason the VOIP box isn't staying checked.
I'm getting my PC stats together so I can post a problem in the Support section. I fully intend on getting my mic back, but in the mean time I need to at least hear voice commands from SLs. If I can hear Team voice too, that would be helpful also.

Welcome to the forums, bro.
I suggest investing in this cheap Creative headset -
Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset
I use it, and you can pick it up for like $40!

Great reason for not having a mic.. Having one will make you not get kicked. Brilliant attitude to have, just brilliant..

Just FYI, i used to have this problem you are describing - if you are on win XP, it could have something to do with DirectX 9 settings.
Google, apart from community, is your friend here...

I wasn't able to hear VOIP when my mic was broken and unplugged, only when I fixed it and connected it to the computer I was able to hear VOIP again.

Well something is definitley wrong if the voip box won't stayed checked. I played without a mic for about a year and I could always hear Voip and responded by typing very fast, lol.

My experiencis when my cats destroy my mic is, that if you plug in mic even you cant talk in game you can hear your sq members. if you are unpluged VOIP dont transmit. i havend tried it but if you plug in fake connector just for send information to PR that you have "mic" he apply that.
Sometimes iam playing and cant talk becouse my wife sleeping near me. But i can heare them just becouse i plug in. If not i hear nothing. Try it.

yes, that is great tip. Just plug your headphones to mic plug and start game

when you get box checked, you can switch back to headphone plug.
it could be that some audio drivers turn mic channel to some other use if they wont detect microphone in. could be also that they detect your headphones there so you cant get it working because impedance is wrong.
simple solution is to find mic. cheapest are like 2 eur.

I posted some help about this problem in the Support forum. Got some help and was advised to check Realtek recording devices and ensure that it was enabled. Did the necessary and problem solved. Still need a mic though.
Thanks bluesandroyals, gonna try to buy it.

dont know fi your "enable voip" check box error has been fixed yet, but have you tried doing it via vBF2 menu? sometimes the settings dont save properly if you are doing it via a mod.
