General PB Client Authentication Failure.

Hi, Before I built my new comp I was having a problem on my old computer on PR 0.957 with General PB Client Authentication Failure.

But ONLY on 3 differents Servers, Which are:

1. Pr1. VBIOS.com | Project Reality 0.957e
2. Pr2. VBIOS.com | Project Reality 0.957e
3. Pelitutka.fi PR v0.57ex

Was roughly after 5 minutes of joining the server when I get the disconnection message, but every now and then I can play up to 15 minutes before getting kicked.
Click to see an image of the error message...

So I tryed a couple of things of Google to try solve the problem, which was:

- Unistall then Re-Install Punkbuster.
- Update Punkbuster several times.
- Unistall Battlefield 2 and All parts of PR, then re-install everything again.
- Turn off my firewall and any other virsus protection..
- Run in Administrator.
- A new re-install of windows.

Had no luck with it, so I decided to give up and wait for my new computer. (hoping that will be the end of it).

But that wasnt the end of it, I setup my new computer and installed all drivers up to date etc.. and installed bf2/pr0.957 with patches and punkbusters blah blah...

Joined one of the servers listed above and BAM got the same message again!
So I thought to myself it might be the way I install bf2 and the patches with punkbuster then pr etc..
So I tryed in all different ways to install bf2, the patches and pr and punkbuster, but no matter what way I install them, It still gives me the same error. I have unistalled and reinstalled bf2 and pr and punkbuster so many times now.
Its really frustrating now!

Also today I joined [MIF] Made In France - All Maps - PR 0.957e PR Server and I got the same message as the other 3 servers listed above.
So I did some searching on them 4 servers and I think they have the same simular connection to why im getting kicked.

1. I think they're all European :-?
2. They all have the symbol 64 next to there server.
What I mean by the 64 symbol is these icons like this...

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

and its this one, that the 4 servers have:- Image

This error DOESNT happen to any other servers AFAIK :?
Its very weird that it only happens to them servers listed above.

System Specs:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58
CPU: Intel i7 950
RAM: 6GB
GPU: Gigabyte NVIDIA GTX 580
ISP: Virgin Broadband 20mb

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks, Mike.

Check your Event Viewer.

You might have to completely uninstall what ever security suite you are using - turning off sometimes doesn't suffice.

You should also submit a ticket to punkbuster.

On a side note, I had quite some trouble with this mainboard, I hope your Firmware is up-to-date:

However I really think this is a networking issue. Which would mean it resides at either your ISP or your router. How are you connected, what devices are in use?

Not sure what you mean by the event viewer ?
Also how do I check my Firmware is upto date?

Im also begining to think its a network problem too,

My ISP: Virgin Broadband Link to Virgin Website
Speed: 20mb

Im using the standard Virgin modem as seen in the picture below...

And Im connecting that to my pc with Ethernet wire.

Event Viewer: Windows 7 Event Viewer

You can use GigaByte's tool "@bios" to check the FW version and update it (use with caution though! Windows reinstall might be needed because of too severe changes).
@BIOS

Directly connecting to the internet is potentially dangerous as you are not protected by a hardware firewall that a router usually has - your PC is exposed. However this also means that the problem is not resided at your network configuration, since you usually cannot configure the modem. That would mean it is either your ISP or bug in your system.

I really doubt its a bug on my computer as I mentioned that it happend on my old computer and now I have a brand new computer its still doing it.
Will check event viewer later and also my firmware.

Thanks SnipingCoward

Everything seems to be upto date.

Its definitely my router or my internet service provider.

You should try with a replacement (maybe borrow one from your friend, a router that is).

Have you tried manual update of PB. Make sure you run as admin. The PB version you get when you install BF2 is so old it wont auto update.

PunkBuster Online Countermeasures

The version you get with the PR installer should work, but as its auto launches after installing PR im not sure if its classed as run as admin. SO to make doubly sure I use the manual update as no one could give me an answer.

Yep I've tryed manual installing/updating PB several times running it as administrator.

I have been upgraded to 30mb with virgin and getting a new hub, so hopefully that will sort it out.(fingers crossed)

Update:

My sister went on holiday so I watched her house and the dog.
I took my pc with me to check this problem. Anyway connected her internet up to my pc and joined the above servers that have been giving me trouble, I didnt get kicked once!
So its definitely somthing to do with my service provider.

I come home and I got my new superhub 30mb from virgin, Connected it all up to my pc and joined the above servers again and still getting the same message after 10-15 minutes of playing.

So its not my router, Because I have a different one than before.
Not my comp because it was happening on my old one and works at my sisters house.

:? :?

Any Idea?

Did you submit a punkbuster ticket yet?

Since it is the same companies router it might be a setting on that device.
Else it could be your ISP. Maybe they are blocking a certain punkbuser specific por, you should think about giving them a call too.
