Windows 7 Service Pack 1 = BF2/PR CTD?

I know there have been somewhat similar threads on this.
However, please read on first.
BF2/PR and BF2142 have all worked fine till I installed the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 update from Windows Update last week.
Now, when I launch the normal Start menu short-cut:
a) PR: Shows PR Custom splash screen, then screen turns to black to play videos but doesnt, and closes PR to desktop. No error messages, nothing.
b) BF2: Doesn't show splash screen, then screen turns to black to play videos but doesnt, and closes PR to desktop. No error messages, nothing.
c) BF2142: Doesn't show splash screen, then screen turns to black to play videos but doesnt, and closes PR to desktop. Displays a Windows error dialog box "BF2142.exe has stopped working."
There have been no other hardware/software changes on my computer other than those given by Windows Update, Steam updates etc. I can rule out any issue of hardware because other (both more demanding or legacy) titles work fine, and my rig exceeds minimum requirements for sure. Nevertheless:
Gigabyte EP45 Extreme
Intel Core2Quad Q9650 (3.00GHZ)
2x2GB A-ram DDRII 1066MHZ + 2x1GB GEIL DDRII 800MHZ
Gigabyte HD6850 1GB
Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB
Blu-ray Drive, USB peripherals, Wireless card etc.
Does anyone else experience this problem? Post a BRIEF REPLY below if you do. Any solution?
