Hey guys,

I finally upgraded my computer to Win 7 and after installed Bf2/PR i was looking forward to getting into it. But after about 5-10 min of playing my computer completely locks up. Only way to fix it is to hard restart. It does this consistantly 5-10 min into a round.

This only happens in BF2/PR so its got to be some sort of issue related to that. When i went into the win 7 event manager thing it gave me a kernel-power 41 error code which is what windows gives you with an unexpected loss of power, or the reset button..

Ive tried a few things to fix it. First was turn all my settings to low to test a driver error, i then reinstalled all of BF2/PR and always ran as administrator to avoid security blocking parts of it.

Its got to be a problem between win 7 and PR because when i had these parts with XP for my OS it ran like a dream.

Any help would be appreciated!

Is there a specific server that you've gotten those BSODs on? I know that I get PR crashes and some times BSODs when I play on the *Merk* server, it's probably due to their own serverside patch. Just like you I could only play for about 5 min (or less) then I crashed.

All other servers works fine.

Ive never actually tried anything but the TG server, however when i played vanilla it also crashed so i kinda ruled that out of the possible issues. Thanks anyways though

Sounds like a driver issue.
I suggest you do not use windows supplied drivers (via windows update) for gaming, i find that they are insufficient. You should check at your manufacturer's website for new drivers.

Do the usual:
check temperatures,
revert if overclocked,
run check disk,
update drivers (try other ones),
check bios settings,
disable auto-reboot so you will see the bsod if it occurs and doesn't freez
try lowering settings

if it really is a voltage issue it can be that the PSU is too weak (Windows 7 uses resources differently can afaik can therefore cause more strain on them)
there are also some over clocking tools that would let you adjust the voltage (e.g. of RAM) - this might stabilize your system. (I am not a fan of over clocking, you have to be really carefull with it)

Ive looked over all the temperatures and they are all average temperatures. (somewhere in the mid 40s/low 50s). Nothing is overclock on my system, all stock settings and i have the latest drivers for BIOS/GPU/Audio/Devices etc. Ill set my auto reset to dont reset right away. Ill run the game tomorrow and see what i come up with. Thanks for the suggestions!

I have exactly the same problem. 5-10 minutes after joining a game I get a BSOD.

I have tried several servers, changed my graphics card, checked the temps (~45?C CPU and 60?C GPU) and tried other games/benchmarks/stresstests, none get me to a BSOD.
I did a full memtest86 2 weeks ago and found no errors (the ram was new anyways). I also moved my BF2 from my SSD to a normal HDD but that didn't help either.

In the attachement you can find the .dmp file that was created by Win7 on one of the BSOD occasions.
It basically says:

CPU: Intel Q6600
GPU: AMD HD 6950 (geforce gtx 280 had the same problem)
RAM: 6 GB
Mainboard: Asus P5b


edit: I have the steam version of BF2, if that makes any difference.
edit2: Okay, I did a steam-file-integrity-check and reinstalled PR and was able to play for about an hour now before I got the BSOD. That is definitely an improvement. :/

Now it appears to work. Seems like my windows was fracked and BF2 (tested the main game which BSOD'ed as well) was the only thing noticing it.
