VOIP Question

So I got PR and BF2 installed last night. And after doing a search on the forum and not finding anything to my exact situation I have to ask this question.
I am having problems with VOIP, I dont know if your supposed to have an outside program or chat channel enabled, but I cannot get it to work.
First off I dont have a mic, but I am trying to turn VOIP on so I can HEAR the other players. Every time I go into PR options and turn "Enable VOIP" on and then set recieving to 100% and hit apply, it applys. Then I back out and go back and its back at 0... can anyone help me? OR let me know how the ingame VOIP works?? Thanks!
Casey

yeah I cant, I should be able to hear other players even without a mic right???
Do I need to activate mumble or get TeamSpeak or something installed and running before I can hear other players?

yeah, you should still be able to hear other players.
gotta be something wrong.
no other programs(mumble, TS..) are not needed for the ingame VOIP.
edit: You do get into a squad and try right?

sure do. Its something to do with the options file I think, should it have recieving set to more than 0 percent??

well thats it, it wont let me enable VOIP nothing.. every time I set it to 100% and click enable voip then hit apply it says it applys. Then I hit back, and go to the main screen. Then I go back into the options and itsall set to 0 %.. I just want to fix this. Im only a few days into playing PR and Im already tired of being a PITA to sqaud leaders with VOIP who need to type everything to me

then I might actually get a microphone so I can actually communicate with people haha.

I had that same problem for a long time to. Then I bought a new headset again a few weeks ago and magically it worked again. No one could give me a good answer to fix it either.

try going to C:\Users\Aaron Rudd\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles select whichever is your profile and go to the audio.con and set it manually, set the file to read only so bf2 cant override it

Try to start the game as Admin, maybe the game lacks specific privileges that are required for the options to save.

Your sound card probably diables the microphone in recording devices when nothing is plugged in. BF2-VOIP will not work if it is missing an input device. Either disable this feature in your driver program or plug any 3.5mm jack into the mic or do what Rudd suggested.

Tried both solutions and nothing. Couldnt get the program to edit the .con file so I downloaded the audio.con files that vaiper uses and replaced the original one and set it to read only. Then I took a pair of headphones and tried plugging them into the microphone and head phone jacks seperately, no dice, my recieve is set to 0% and when I move it up and apply then back out its back at 0 again. Im going to try starting PR in administrator then try plugging something into both jacks at once to see what that does.
What can I use to edit the .con file and what line am I looking for to edit?? (To allow the mic sounds to be recieved, I dont have a mic and want to hear what my SL is saying and such)
I do have a xbox 360 controller and a xbox 360 mic if there is maybe some what I could use those with the computer??
Any other ideas guys??
EDIT:
I figured it out, finally found another post, and what it was was in the little sound tab at the bottom right, there is a right click option called recording devices. Something to do with Windows 7 Blocking any VOIP from working unless a mic was plugged in.
