Hi all

I will be getting BF2 tomorrow and will be pretty much using it solely for PR so this will be my first PR experience.

I was just wondering, do you have any advice on what I should/shouldn't be doing out there?
Any general tips that I should keep in mind while playing?

I'm in the process on reading the manual so I'll hopefully know most of the options available to me, but it's the general things that you only really find out from playing the game and wouldn't be able to get in the manual that would be nice to know in preparedness.

Just don't want to be stressing all of you out by doing dull things you know ha.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Well first off mate, welcome to the PR community. Have a good one here, you'll like it.

Secondly, don't go straight into an online match, you'll be called a noob and flamed by the various idiots of the PR world (we don't like them ). Try going for a local coop match, it's singleplayer basically, and helps you get to know the foundation of everything before you go into the online matches.

Make sure you have a mic, PR is one of the few games (not a mod of course ) that really does require a mic to be effective. Remember your teamwork, ask for help when you need it, and have fun

You did the right thing first.

Remember that reading the manual will only teach you so much and most of what you learn about the game will come from playing it. There is no substitute for experience so when you first get in-game try to find a squad with a good SL and let them know you're new. If they're any good they will help you get started.

Make sure you're playing on the right servers, I personally recommend PRTA, TG, UKWF and NWA.

As a new guy focus on staying alive much more so than trying to get kills. Eventually the staying alive part will become instinct.

Practice on coop server first to learn how to handle PR bullets deviation which may seems weird at the beginning (but has amazing effects on how people play the game).

5.56mm scoped assault rifles are the easiest weapon to use and the most versatile, I'd start with that. Once you are used to deviation, you can start playing on-line PvP game, good squad leaders will teach you in no time .

If you want to get your feet wet right away, start as infantry. Join a squad and tell them that you're new and want to just use the regular rifleman kit.

Medic is also another good starter, but only if you know how it works. If you decide to go medic, it is your duty to stay alive and only revive them once the coast is clear (no matter how insistent they are).

A third option for starting off is specialist.

Stay away from light AT, heavy AT, sniper, marksman, grenadier, combat engineer (artillery-shell IED kit if insurgent), and Squad leader. Try to learn what you can about these kits BEFORE you use them.

Learn the squad mechanics (how to defend, maneuver, attack) and comm system before trying to lead a squad.

Stay with your squad. People that wander away from the squad are usually considered a nuisance.

Some squad leaders don't like to teach, others might not have the time to.

Practice using TANKS, AA, APCs, HELIs, JETs and any other heavy assets BEFORE trying to use them on an online server. You can host your own game or join a COOP server for practice.

First off thanks for the welcomes guys.

I have a mic and have downloaded Mumble as I understand it is good to have. Is there any other software recommended to get? I'm sure I read somewhere of a different program but not sure.

Never knew about the co-op aspect so that sounds like it will be really good to get the feel of the game etc. without all the pressure. Then hopefully when I become more competent and confident I can step up to the proper multiplayer then.

I was in your boat once, I picked up the game purely for the PR experience, and I never regretted it.

First off, as others said, a Mic is one of the most important aspects of a great PR experience, its like playing an MMO offline if you dont have one, i.e it will get boring eventually.

Reading the manual is a great start, and I would recommend downloading each part of PR before your BF2 arrives, so you can jump right into it. Follow these instructions to set up your PR, you will need to download the BF2 Patches before playing too.

Next, when you first launch PR, go into Co-Operative > Local > New (or something like that) And choose the Basrah infantry layer and then put the AI into any difficulty you want, probably good to put it in lowest so you can acclimatise to PR.

Just pick the general Rifleman kit, and then get going and try and get used to the way that weapons work, remember everything you learned from the manual.

After doing this a couple of times, and you feel you could participate as a squad, jump into an Online game.
Good servers to start off on are PRTA, UKWF and NWA (as Jigsaw mentioned) and if you just want a bit of fun, I remember the =]H[= (Hardcore) servers are good for that.

Probably the best server for teamwork is Tactical Gamer, although to get maximum enjoyment factor, Mumble (Check it out HERE) is an invaluable addition. Check the link to find out more about it, its incredibly simple, and makes PR so, so much better (I know, I didnt think it was possible either)

Lastly, have fun. A lot of people take the game seriously, and unless your a Universal Soldier some people will kick you from their squad. Dont get put off by these idiots, nobody really likes them. On the contrary, some people who play this game, do it as a group of friends, and may see you as an outsider, meaning the squad wont work correctly. Its good to join a squad with a generic name (INF, VOIP INF, ENG VOIP etc) rather than join a squad with a name like "Nubcakes", "trolololo", or "l33t", as these are usually groups of people who regularly play with each other, although sometimes its just a person trying to be funny.

Join any squad, and follow the below -

Kicked in first second without speaking - its a group of people that know each other/are waiting for someone - Dont try and join it again.

Kicked after they know your new - leave the squad alone, just a bunch of jerks

Not kicked - ask squad leader what kit he wants you to take, tell him you are new. Also recommend to the SqLeader that (if he asks you) you shouldnt take a special kit (Such as HAT, LAT, Sniper, AA etc) as you will most likely fail, and possibly put the entire squad in harms way. Honestly gets you further than bluffing

Finally - Dont take the Sniper kit, its not cool

Once again, welcome to PR, and dont get put off by anything, its truly the best thing ever invented once you get to love it!

Welcome mate! Excellent first impression you left here, if you're anything like that in-game you're going to get along with most people very well =)

The others have pretty much said it all, so there's not much I could add. Make sure you know how the Medic kit works, as people said, it's one of the most useful and yet noob-friendly kit in the squad, given you don't get yourself killed too often. Even if you (as you probably will) start playing as rifleman, it's important to know the medic kit basics in case the medic gets shot and you're closest to him. You'll be asked to take his kit, revive him, heal him, and give it back to him as soon as the area is clear, and you best know what to do then

naah ive spoke to him in xfire. He doesnt have a working machine yet, which is why i told him to train his circuits.

I'm still not sure we're talking about the same guy, Wicca, but oh well
