Steering wheels.

Lately I have been trying out something new when I play project reality. When I drive a tank, or any land based vehicle, I use a steering wheel.

(this is the one I use)
Now the reason behind this is not for laughs or anything like that. With a steering wheel and pedals , you can move at a slower speed without jerking around. It also seems to cause you much less bounce. My friend and I took turns doing this while the other would gun. What I found is the smoother movement made firing while moving actually viable.
In one engagement, we managed to take out two other AFV's a long range while taking minimal damage.
Another, taking on another tank while avoiding return fire.
Up to near maximum speed, the vehicle you are in will have much less bounce (we tried this out with the BMP 3, something that normally seems like it has hydraulics installed.)
Anyone else tried this type of thing?

I have the same wheel. I'm only getting the game tomorrow so probably wouldn't be able to give much detailed feedback on it due to lack of experience but will definitely try it out, seems like an interesting idea.
What you say about the pedals giving more control would be a definite one, just the same as going from controller to wheel in the car games.
So can you actually control the throttle pressure with it, or is it still the on/off feature?
As well as adding realism, I bet the control of the vehicle would be very much improved like you said.
Nice idea.

It is variable, just like how you can use joysticks for planes with throttle levers/slides. Only problem is you have one hand on the wheel, one hand on the mouse and your feet on the peddles. I would map some buttons to the wheel, like enter/exit, zoom...... to various buttons. If you are really lucky you might have a thumb/mouse stick on your wheel....
and yes it is very controllable, and greatly increases the effectiveness of any armor vehicle.

WHen i palyed with steering wheel, i also noticed that you could turn at full speed, because with keyboard, the vehicle slows down slightly when going in circles.

I use my throttle a decent time in PR vehicles. Lower throttle settings allow fire while moving very possible; the Bradely can fire its TOW while movings all so slowly.
Interestingly enough I also used the joystick for infantry moving. I found that it offered a good deal more control over your movements and allowed CQB stuff to be handled better. The biggest issue with this though is that your Joystick must know how to set absolutely still otherwise any slight offset and your deviation is fubar.
