Until the release of PR2 at least
Or until EA shuts down the master servers or w/e for BF2.

People will only stop playing it if something can replace it, untill then we will see new players iam sure, unless the internetz becomes unaware of this game. I do hope ARMA 2 PR will make it big, they seem to be putting retail level effort into it and the good kind of retail level effort too.

In soviet russia PR doesnt die, PR die you! (wtf? that didnt work

)
hahahaha, fail.
Back on topic : i reckon it will still be played aslong as there is no other alternative game/mod which offers a more realistic gameplay.

Mnhnnn you got me thinking about PR2 now. That will be the pinnacle of everything expected (and sometimes not possible) from the BF2 engine.
But yeah i'll eventually upgrade my PC and play PR:ArmA2

tentative date is the 1st of Octember.
i dont see PR "dieing" anytime soon. i mean, with new releases (PR
3?), the population of PR:BF2 servers might decrease.
but they say you never truly dead so long as someone remembers you.

I think the only suitable replacement for PR:BF2 will be PR:ArmA2. And even then, I expect to get back from my deployment in Feb. 2012 and it probably won't have been released yet.

It will, though. Seems like they're mostly adding finishing touches from what I can read out.

From what I read they are still in alpha stage so might be 18+ months from now.

The population of PR is amazingly resilient, regardless of new game releases people constantly keep it in their gaming rotation (or even as the sole game they play) which shows that its not going to die anytime soon.
PRA2 whilst shiny and new, won't have the same flow and accessibility as PRBF2. A2 is simply a chunky game and very frustrating to move around in, which is very offputting to new players (thats what I, and many of my mates found when trying it out), in addition to the complicated multiplayer system and keyboard layout. PRV is a spin-off which will be uninteresting and dead within a month of its release, so IMO we can only hope that PR2 will keep the 'Project Reality' concept going after the EA master server is turned off.
Which hopefully is a long, long time from now.

Strong words Dtacs, but I agree I don't hold much hope for vietnam.
PR will die when something becomes better at what it does: Teamwork and realism

I? expect it to not die as such, more just evolve more and more. PR:Arma2 is the first step, then PR2, then who knows what else.
Evolution is the answer!

Well considering they're getting 128s in servers, i'm pretty damn sure it won't be for a while yet my friend. I just wished i'd heard of PR earlier, i only got it at 0.91!

Not sure if I agree with PR:V. I have a feeling it won't produce many loyal fans to it, sure, but it seems like a nice version when you're tired of nowadays warfare. Iron sights, CQB...perfect for 3 nights a month or so.
I'm almost positive it will draw a few BF2 and FH2 players into it as well. 1 or 2 servers being constantly filled.

While I agree with you, the differences and somewhat complexity of ARMA2 may put some players off PR:ARMA2, PR:ARMA2 aims to resolve many of these problems where it can making it more friendly to new players etc but the main thing going for PR:ARMA2, other than it being shiny and new is it aims to have PR's gameplay while also using the many extra features of the ARMA2 engine which will bring a lot to the PR gameplay and as such, I believe that it will still be a big hit among many players, although there will no doubt be many players who will stick with PR:BF2 (some which will no doubt still play both BF2 and ARMA2) due to PR:BF2 having so much more content and in some ways features that PR:ARMA2 has yet to catch up on, you will still only get Muttrah City on PR:BF2
dtacs wrote:PRV is a spin-off which will be uninteresting and dead within a month of its release
PRV is no more of a spin-off than any other new content we add to PR:BF2. All PRV will offer is the PR gameplay that you are all use to, but with Vietnam era weapons and environments with slight gameplay changes to reflect the Vietnam war better.
Saying it will be dead within a month of its release is like claiming no one is going to be playing a new map within a month of its release, which is only true if the map has serious bugs or has serious gameplay issues so unless your predicting either of thous things to be the down fall of PRV, which you don't seem to be, then I see very little evidence to support your claim.

PR is a hard game to get bored with because they keep releasing new patches etc...
Also I must say though, lately there has been less servers up around 20:00 to about 12:00 especialy UK servers

PR2 will most likely come, but not until some cash is forked out to get a few geeks to build an engine and editor. just dont make the mistake of holding your breath.
PRA2 has lots of potential but the main game has given the game a bad rep as an engine. however the mods are good. bad desyncing on PVE and a difficult animation system.
PRV is interesting and will last as long as there is new content, but its probibly unwise to devide your forces.
